Sleeve and gusset d30

I'm finally planning on regearing(4.88s). I'd like to chunk the d30 but I just can't afford to. Who has sleeved and gusset their d30 and do you think it was worth it? I have 33s and don't plan to go any bigger, at least nothing larger than 35s. Has anyone bent their d30 after beefing it up? Thanks

I ran 33's on my D30 on my TJ for 5 years (granted it was not a daily driver). I had no issues up until I sold it. I was running it with an EZ Locker, until the locker failed, then put in an Aussie Locker, and it lasted for 4 years, until I sold the Jeep.

I forget who, someone on this site running on 33s bent his psgr side tube lite wheeling. I'd like to just regear, but I also want peace of mind. I may just regear and leave it at that. I sure don't want to spend money if I don't have to.

Seeing as you're gonna have the axle partially torn down anyways to do the gears it'd make sense to do sleeves and gussets at the same time. They are relatively cheap and would be good to have if you do secide to make the jump to 35's at some point.

I'm running 33's and put poly c-gussets on my axle a while back and I still think I managed to bend my axle b/c the driver tire is leaning inward a bit. This makes me think my axle tube is bent a bit and makes me kick myself for not doing sleeves at the same time. What I'm saying is it doesn't seem to take much to bend these axles, granted I have a lot of armor on my 2door and wheel somewhat agrressively, but still i think it's worth spending the extra couple hundred buck to get your axle sleeved and gusseted.

2008 JK X 2-door, 37" MTRK's, Xenon narrows, 3" Synergy frankenlift, Prorock 44 front with 5.13's/rcv's/rubi locker, Rock Jock 60 rear w/ 5.13's and a Detroit, and lots of armor...

I sleeved and gusseted my front Dana 30 and comfortably run 35s and an ARB locker...no problems for over a year of real tough wheeling. The JK front Dana 30 tube and Cs are the same as the JK front Dana 44 - only difference is the diff case. I personally do not think you need to sleeve and gusset for 33s (stock is 32) but it might give you some peace of mind. I used the EVO kit. (Well, obviously the D44 axle itself is also different).

I had the same thinking, and went ahead and sleeved/gussetted my D30 when I moved up to 5.13s and Spartan Lockers. My motto is build it to withstand the punishment of an idiot on the trail LOL. Especially stuff like that which is really inexpensive insurance if you're already in the axle anyways.

I've sleeved and gussetted my d30 running 35's. Have only done some mild off roading so far but so far no problems. My reasoning was that since pr44's are not very likely for me, I might as well build up the d30 as much as possible.

i kind of think along the same lines. i'd have to sell the motorcycle to buy a pr44 or a 60 and i just can't do that

You're not going to bend that tube. I haven't bent mine on 35's on a 5,500 pound JKU and I've wheeled it everywhere.

I asked a guy at a very good 4X4 shop here in Denver about sleeving and gusseting the axle and he said he's never seen a bent one.

Good luck with that. If you do, they still want a small fortune for it. It has the same tubes and C's as the D30 anyway.

I just did some really aggressive wheeling with a Dana30 and 33s on stock gears and didn't have any problems at all. A TJ I was with had 4:10s, Dana30 front, and 33's broke a axel shaft on the same trail, so I guess it can happen.
