i was wondering if this is normal of the jeeps, or if maybe something is wrong. we have a little over 1800 miles on her now, and i noticed this weekend that when i just let off of the accelerator and coast to a stop, from around 45-50 mph, i feel sorta of a shudder, as if the veh is braking for me....i know it sounds crazy, and its tough to describe in a sense but wondering if anybody else has experienced this...

thanks

Without being there and seeing it for myself...it kind of sounds like a problem I was having - and there is a TSB for that:

TSB - Flash: Torque Converter Shudder / Shift Quality Improvements / DTC P0732 - REV. B
July 17th, 2007 | Category: Jeep JK TSB & Recalls, Transmission TSB SUPERSEDED BY 21-002-08 REV. B

NUMBER: 21-002-07 REV. B
GROUP: Transmission
DATE: July 17, 2007

SUBJECT:
Flash: Torque Converter Shudder / Shift Quality Improvements / DTC P0732

OVERVIEW:
This bulletin involves reprogramming the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) with new software and replacing the torque converter as required.

SYMPTOM/CONDITION:
The vehicle operator may experience one or more of the following symptoms:

1. Transmission Shudder - 42RLE All, 41TE CS/JS, 62TE CS/JS
a. This condition can only occur after the vehicle has been driven and the torque convertor is past the break in period. Torque Converter break in can be confirmed with the StarSCAN®.
b. If experienced, the shudder may occur when the transmission temperature is between 38° C and 54° C (100° F and 130° F) during steady state driving with the torque convertor in partial lock (EMCC) operation. The shudder feels like the vehicle
is being driven over rumble strips.
2. Torque Converter Pull In Bump - 41TE JS, 62TE CS/JS
a. This condition can occur due to abrupt torque converter clutch engagement during EMCC initialization.
3. DTC P0732 - Gear Ratio Error in 2nd Gear - 62TE CS
a. The MIL may or may not be lit (2 trip fault).
b. Limp In will occur when this fault is set.
c. This is an intermittent condition and cannot be duplicated. If the fault can be duplicated, other conditions exist and further investigation will be required.
4. Shift Quality Improvements - 62TE CS
a. Rapid Decel Coastdown Stumble.
b. Low Speed 3-2 Kickdown Harshness.
c. 4-5 and/or 5-6 upshift flare bump.

i really hate to bring up this old thread but these are the exact symptoms i am having with my 08. This is an 07 TSB i know but wasnt sure if maybe it was updated. I bought it used so the life time power train warranty doesn't transfer. Does anyone know if i would be covered? I have looked up my VIN on Jeeps site and there are no open recalls. Please help! i really don't want to replace the transmission. I cant afford that.

I know this thread is super old, however I have a 2017 JK at the dealer right now for a "shudder" when engaging the clutch from dead stop, does not do it all the time. they are telling me they cannot duplicate the issue therefore will not fix it. I am just under the 12,000 mile mark where the transmission is no longer warrantied.

I do not know what the above terms mean, not fluent in car speak so forgive my stupidity.... but would this apply to my situation as well?? Please help!

Nope - torque converters are in automatic transmissions. You have a clutch.

Since I got my Jeep I've been feeling this issue. Is there anything for a service bulliten for a 2013 JK? Mine is in fact an automatic. I've been having the same problem with that shudder feeling.

I know of a service bulliten that adjusted shift points that I had mine flashed with (although I think setting my tire size differently with my programmer might have reset that flash for the shift points). I'd love to get it fixed. It constantly feels like I have an engine brake being applied every time that shudder kicks in.

Hi FireGuy1996,

If you could send us your VIN, we'd be glad to check for any campaigns that relate to what you've described.

My 2008 JKU (auto 112300 miles stock) developed the TC shudder about a month ago. Ive taken it to the Dealer and asked them to repair it per the TSB but they said it doesnt pertain to my 2008 JK, only 2007 models. During a short test drive with the Tech it shuddered slightly but not as bad as it sometimes feels (like going over large rumble strips). I took the JK in last week for some warranty service to repair a trans gasket leak that they had replaced about 6 mos. ago and an exhaust manifold replacement under the Lifetime Powertrain Warranty and again asked them to look into the shudder issue. We'll see what they come up with.

This forum is great, I learn something every time. I have way too many DC vehicles, all of which shudder, but my 2007 Sebring convert with the 41 tranny has the most shudder in my group.

I purchased a 2 door sport automatic brand new in 2010 and the tranny failed in just over 4000 miles of street use! I got a shudder from a dead stop and after a few times the tranny died. Jeep put me in a rental car for a week and they replaced the tranny with a brand new unit..but it never felt right and I traded out of the Jeep shortly thereafter. My current 2016 2 door Anniversary is a manual transmission and I'm enjoying it!
