Should I buy a 2011 Wrangler Unlimited?
I currently have a 2008 Jeep Commander and I'm considering trading it for a Wranlger. I've always loved the Wrangler look. I don't off ride, I just do "everyday" driving. I'm seriously considering buying one if it will be a good vehicle for me. What do you guys think?

When I drive my friend's Commander, I feel like I'm driving my old 2006 Grand Cherokee (same platform, so that makes obvious sense). When I drive my Wrangler, it feels about 200% different. Don't get a Wrangler unless you drive one first. It's a whole different animal from your Commander. (not good or bad.. just very different)

If I were in your position, I would make the decision solely from a financial perspective.
If you can afford it, and don't mind spending the money to change vehicles, then making the change because you "love the Wrangler Look" is a great reason.

If you feel like you would enjoy driving a wrangler than there is nothing wrong with buying one. Just remember though that it is a purpose made vehicle and that purpose is for off road driving so it will be different from the commander in the way it drives. Just don't buy one and complain that it should be more car like and less truck like because remember it's supposed to be the one vehicle that can go farther than all the others when it comes to going offroad.

Go and test a new 2011 Wrangler with a hard top... They are way different now... Much nicer and quieter too.

i had a 2003 TJ Sahara, and now a 2011 Unlimited Sahara. The 2011 feels quite a bit more smoother than the 2003, a lot quieter for sure.
you should really test drive one. just remember, as other folks have mentioned, it's a purpose made vehicle. a speedster it is not, but fun to drive nonetheless.

Also keep in mind that 2012 Wranglers will come with a newer, more powerful engine. If you're not in a hurry, it might be worth the wait. I'd imagine it would make the transition a lot smoother for you.

I have a 2008 Wrangler Unlimited Rubicon and a 2007 Commander 4x4 Hemi... Totally different vehicles & I love them both.
Hands down the top 2 favorite jeeps I've ever owned... and I've owned a bunch.
The Commander has a much softer ride than the Wrangler and although its not as nimble it goes like a Bat out of hell when you step on the skinny peddle. If you are going from the 4.8 Commander to the Wrangler you won't feel too hobbled power wise, but the Wrangler will feel much slower. If you have the 5.7 Hemi now the Wrangler is going to feel incredibly slow.
The Wrangler is not as comfortable for long road trips. But I love driving it.
Next thing to consider: You have a Commander right now, you can easily lift it for $300, put on a set of Wheel Spacers $120, and throw on some nice 32" - 33" MT tires and wheels from a Rubicon $600.
This is a fraction of the price VS the loss you'll take on the trade-in ($3000-$6000). Lifted Commanders look cool!
If you want to take it off road it will Go Places. If you have the Quadra DriveII 4X4 package it will really go some places.
This isn't mine... it belongs to someone on the the XK side of forum here, I just wanted you to see what yours could look like for about $1200... If you like the roof rack and front brush bar thats about $1400 more.

Gawd! I think lifted commanders are so sexy! This is something that I have just discovered about myself.

Dayum, that's cool.
But I bet you can't "wheel it" because it has painted fenders and isn't a Rubicon!!! Lol
