Shifter knobs for JK's...

has anyone tried adding a shift knob from a 2006 model. i want to order something from Quadratec but so far they only show a couple for JK's and i've got to change the stock knob ( i can't stand that ugly piece of plastic ).

I haven't looked at mine, but I read that somebody took theirs off and it's not a regular threaded-type shifter, it's a d-shaped shaft, and the factory knob presses on. It's likely most of the available aftermarket ones won't fit without some mods.

i'm looking to change the shifter knob on my 6 speed, but i'm sure others would be interested in swapping the autos knob as well.

I changed mine (6 speed), throw a BFWrench around the knob and knock it from underneath a coupla times, it will pop off...i replaced it with a chrome hand granade (valentines gift from the wife..to remind me of my young military days) it was a universal fit and i was able to bring up the hight a few inches so it feels better to shift, and looks pretty good...a screw on replacement wont work, i was thinking about getting a flameball (light up, really cool www.flameball.com ) and i emailed the company about it fitting, and they will.

okay, more info please. is it a splined shaft? when looking at knobs, and they say universal fit, what exactly is it? how will it fit?

so the OEM knob is just stuck on there? compression or glue?

I too would like the shifter height to come up, more like my TJ, it was more comfortable for me.

its actually a smooth shaft... no jokes please, and it is "d" shaped, the knob is just pressed on, some have said they have pulled it off by hand, i had to give it a few smacks..just like in the new TSB out on making some depressions to get rid of the body flex popping... gotta love banging the new ride with a hammer...i actually used some electrical tape then put one of the adapters into the new knob to lift it higher on the shifter, then just tightened up the set screws....tons better now, used to feel like i was stretching for 5th

Thanks I'll look for a universal fit with the adapter ring and set screws!
