Rust Spots on New 2008 Unlimited Muffler

Hello all, I got my first Jeep last weekend and I'm a total Jeep newb (but a thrilled newb!)

I bought a 2008 unlimited Sahara 4x4 last Friday night. When I was looking it over a little more closely Saturday morning, I noticed a number of pea-sized rust spots on the muffler. They look to be surface spots (i.e. no holes that I can see). It had been on their lot since March and had 150 miles on it, but I have to think it shouldn't have rust spots on it.

I'm dropping it by the dealership tomorrow to have their service guy take a look at it. Any suggestions on what to say to them? Should I insist on a replacement? From what I can read on the rust portion of the warranty all they would have to do when it comes time for state safety inspection (and if it failed) they could just say I was wheeling it and got rock scrapes, which led to rust not covered under warranty.

Suggestions? Thanks all, lovin' my Jeep

It's very common. Just looks ugly and from what I've been told they wont cover it until there is a hole through it.

lol, thanks guys! Yeah, I need to get a new mud covering soon

Is there anything I can/should do about it to make it look better, or is it best just to leave it?

I went to Walmart, bought BarBQ paint (high temp), laid on my back, sprayed my muffler, got back up and it's done.

Took me less then 5 minutes:

http://www.jeepforum.com/forum/f96/pictures-my-white-jk-608085/ for my pics of my Jeep.

Save yourself the trouble of rust in the future on everything and pick up a can up Boeshield T9, CRC Heavy Duty Rust Inhibitor, Lanocote or if you've got a West Marine local: West Marine CorrosionPro Lube.

Spray everything. Should be reapplied about every 6 months. And always wash after wheeling, especially inside the frame. I like just using the hose to wash everything down, then use a product called roll off on everything, let sit for 10 minutes and hose down. It also contains rust inhibitors.

Electrical connections will thank you too.

don't worry about the rust, i know it's a new jeep and everything should be prestine but just let it happen the jeep sat for close to 6 months. They won't do anything about that i used to work at a jeep dealership.
