Roll Cage in JK. Good Enough in a Bad Roll?

Is the roll cage adequate for a crash and burn?
Not a fire but a hard smack and roll?
Any one seen a JK post crash?
A body harness seems reasonable to add.
A search mentioned Hard Rock roll cage, any opinions?

According to the multiple stickers inside the Jeep, the cage is not designed to provide much protection of contain passengers in the vehicle.

Saw a picture here of an older Jeep someone flipped over a brick wall sideways, landed upside down but lived to tell about it.

I don't know if that helps.

The factory cage will support the weight of the JK and will not normally deflect in any rollover condition. But, it's open and the rest of the vehicle skin is flimsy. A rock can still poke your noggin, and you can still get arms and legs trapped outside the ride. Hard Rock cages are better, a harness will help as will safety netting and rock/tube doors. Better is not to put yourself in a rollover situation.

Donkie,
What the heck happened to that poor Jeep? Looks like someone could have been hurt. Hope not but the cage held up.

Thanks,

It looks like the passenger compartment is just fine, as long as they were wearing seat belts. Looks like an end over end.
Hope everyone came through Ok.

As a FYI tho, Racing harnesses are illegal in many states. May want to check the inspection laws in yours.

If you've ever seen what a Jeep hardtop does in a rollover at speed (not just a trail flop) - they pretty much disintegrate.

My 88' wrangler with the stock roll cage that bolted to the windshield on each side with 2 bolts held up after a 23 time rollover down a 800 foot mountain side. The front bars were bent like taco's BUT they were still attached to the frame of windshield. I came out with scratches but I say today if I would have been using a full harness seat belt I would have died, because I would not have been able to lean over towards the center to keep my head down and avoid any rocks or branches!! The jk isn't built like the 88' but i'm pretty sure the roll bars are attached the same way. Not positive, haven't had the chance to lay the window down yet. In other words I would trust the roll bar completley. If I can dig out the pictures of that wreck I'll post them!! ps: just keep your head down, tuck and roll

Dale Earnhardt died in a terrible accident with all the safety equipment possible.
It seems to me that there are cross bars that minimize the intrusion of foreign objects into the cabin area. Glad to hear you were not hurt, 23 times over is a lot of opportunity for injury and the human body while tough is not indestructible.

Is that thing a 2WD?? I don't see any shifter to put it in 4wd and it doesn't look llike that wheels sitting in the photo was connected to an axle like it was receiving power from it...

A 2WD Sahara??

Was this a crash test Jeep?
