I wouldn't consider running without a 3rd light. We need every advantage we can get to prevent some idiot from slam into us.

Mine is dual purpose. It also makes it harder for someone to steal my tire...

I only know anything about this because I was recently informed by an upfitter outfit that does the police vehicles they had to change the way they installed those flash back devices that alternately flash the back up lights and the brake lights to not include the third brake light as the law that requires the third brake light also says that it can ONLY be illuminated when the brakes are applied.

So if God forbid you were ever in a rear end accident where you were struck in the rear - the people who struck you could possibly argue that it was your fault because you lacked the required third brake light.

I am not saying don't remove it - just sharing so you are fully informed and make a decision knowing all the facts - they are apparently required by the some regulation in the Federal Highway Safety Act.
I can't find it at the moment (my bookmarks desperately need to be organized), but safety equipment required by FMVSS 108 isn't supposed to be removed. Several state laws only require two tail lamps to be functioning, but that's not quite the same thing as having one removed. The CHMSL has been required on cars since 1983 I think, and around 91 or 93 for light trucks/SUVs.

That's a pretty cool set up too.

Is that a plug and play or did you build it?

I think Jeep started in '93 CHMSL. My '92 didn't have one.

Required on cars since 86, have no clue about trucks. I pulled mine off 2 years ago, have had no issues

It's a Teraflex hinge/tire carrier and Warrior 3rd tail light ( slight modification )

Roto Pax is on a Teraflex hijack mount. No modification needed.
