removing softtop without removing hardtop

I know the manual states you need to remove the hardtop to be able to get the softop out on a brand new shipped sahara unlimited. Is that totally true?
No way around it, without damaging it?

You could always cut the soft top in pieces and take it out that way. If you go with this apprach, I recommend something like a sazall - cut it into thirds, should come right out.

This is easy. I didn't take mine off.
1. I just unbolted the hardtop (6 torx in back and 2 on the roll bar roof).

2. I then unscrewed the soft top assy from the rear rollbar.

3. unhook the rear wiper motor/fluid hook up (if you have it).

4. Then, basically did a 6inch squat while standing in the back cargo area of the Jeep, lifting the hardtop up 6 inches while the wife pulled the softtop assy out from under it.

It's really no big deal. Took a whopping 3 minutes to unscrew the torx screws.

Once you actually roll up the sleeves and dig into these things, the mystery is gone & you realize that it's all very easy & quite clever.

Well, heck! you still TOOK IT OFF, just only lifted 6", , was probably easier to just take it all off, remove soft t. and reinstall hard t

I know! I just didn't have anywhere to put it if I were to have totally removed it. Garage was full. Leaving a hulking jeep roof on the front yard wouldn't go over too well in my hoity-toity neighborhood

LOL, just tell em its the newest and greatest in dog pen design, all green for enviroment, cause it wont break down like an asphalt roof, and it will outlast rovers life, and it doubles as a nice top for your Jeep...LOL or time for a spring cleaning, well late summer...

Dealer charged me $45. to take it out - well worth it! If I'd known about it before I signed - I'd have made them deliver it removed! The worst option I ever bought! I'll NEVER use it!
