Rear Tow Hook

Newb here just wondering if anyone has a underside view of a installed rear tow hook on a newer 2 door JK. I saw one on a 4 door at the dealer and it was mounted on the back left under the bumper. Everything I have seen shows a 2 door mount in the middle of the bumper.

I don't have a photo, but on the 09 at least you can put the hook in either place as there are bolt holes in each place. This way you have have a towing reciever and a recovery hook. My 09 Rubicon has the hook on the Left and I will have the towing receiver later.

On the 07's and 08's you got the hook or the towing package in the center, not sure if they have the mounting holes on the left or not.

they dont have the holes but the rails run almost the length of the bumper. you could make a template and cut your own holes and use the tow hook assembly on the side and put the receiver inthe center.... just a thought.

its only six holes, but the rail closest to the bumper would require removing the skin to get to it.

check out my build thread...in the first 20 posts or so, i believe.

it's an 08, in the middle....the 09's moved theirs to the side to accommodate both the hitch and the hook. me personally, i don't like the hook off to just one side...

...leave too much possibility of strapping something off if you have to come from the other side.

I have an '09 and from what I can see under the bumper, the left-sided hook is different from the middle one due to space. Of course you could buy the pre '09 and put it in the middle section of the '09 but the specific hook made for the left-side only won't fit in the center section. I have to visit my dealer to see if any of its Wrangler on the lot has tow hook.

Stuckmehere, wouldn't you mind hitting back the dealer to see how the hook looks on the underside?

Thanks for the responses. I think I would like to mount it on the left side and save the middle for a receiver later. The only difference I can remember when I was layed out in the stealership, was that the bracket on the left side was verticle and ran differently up the frame rail, not like b c who I saw had a three hole mount horizontally in the middle. I was trying to find a hook like da man (bc...after reading his mod's I'm in awe) on ebay or somewhere else so I would not be giving the dealer 70.00. The hook for the 09 Rubicon I think was a little different. Seems a little steep for one hook.

I wouldn't mind two of those hooks, one on left and right. But I have a '07, would it fit?

The 2008 Jeep Wrangler is not so much an SUV as it is an experience. It's slow and loud, handles poorly, has crummy interior materials and features doors that provide virtually no crash protection. But when it comes to off-road performance, the Wrangler is simply the best choice available.

If you have the receiver already just buy an insert with a shackle in it. It'll cost you about the same, I think i saw it for $50 or $60. just my

Can't do it on the passenger side because of the exhaust pipe.

I posted somewhere here that I think the '09 side tow hook and mount has a shape of an 'I' while the middle one has a shape of a 'T." I came to this conclusion when I crawled under my bumper and see the mounting holes.

A Receiver Shackle Starts around $25 - $45 and personally I feel they are better than a hook because the strap won't fall off the shackle like they can with a hook.
