Is there something heavy in the back seat that's putting pressure against the "trunk"? Do you drive a lot on gravel/washboard/uneven roads that way?

I'm just thinking, since I had one of those with no problems....

Nope. Just the back seat itself.
I drive 99% on paved roads.

It's the wire that I posted a little posts above with the pic.
Somehow the clip was lower than the otherwise. Hence the rubbing.
