Rear bumper with swing out tire carrier for Jeep JK

I got my hands on a front and rear JK crossmember. Check out my thread in the Fabrication shop. I have been building bumpers locally and I'm considering getting a Vendor account to sell some bumpers here on the forum.

What kind of interest do you think there is for these bumpers for the JK? I'm going to work on one within the next few weeks.

Thanks!

There's a real problem for JK owners trying to carry an oversize tire on the stock carrier.

I'd say if you beat the silly prices being charged to Quadratec and others, there ought to be a demand.

and the quality, or lack there-of on the smittybilt rattling and shoddy latch mechanism.

PM sent, I would like to stop hating my bumpers.

I will be posting some pics in the somewhat near future. I will be building a "prototype" bumper within the next couple of weeks. Depending on materials used, time, etc., I will come up with a price that is hopefully very competitive (cheaper) then what you will find online.

More to come. Thanks!

Your prototype is very similar to the Body Armour design including the latch...what kind of price can you offer?

The latch is DeStaco, which is simply the best there is. It has a "trigger" mechanism, which will prevent an accidental opening. The latch and spindle are both rated at 2,000 lbs, which means they will easily hold up to a 40" tire, jerry can (will be optional) and a hi-lift jack mount (optional as well).

As for pricing, it is too early to really tell. I plan/hope to beat most prices out there, but the final number will depend on the amount of time it takes to build one, and of course the materials.

If I had to guess, I would say somewhere between $700-$800 dollars + shipping, but please don't hold me to that.

I have a couple of things I will have to work out before getting a vendor account. But first and foremost, I will have to build the "prototype" (pictures will come) and trail test it. I will build this on my buddies JK first and he has 38" tires, so this will be a good test.

Great looking bumper and top notch work. As an old fart who thinks less is better, that bumper keeps weight down and looks bullet proof. Looks like a winner. Sign me up.
Good job,
Tom

Thanks guys. I will continue to update this thread and I will let you know how things are working out. Hopefully I will have a prototype within the next few weeks. After feedback and such, I will open a vendor account and hopefully sell a few of them on here.

Thanks again!

Jeremy
