Rear Backup Camera

For those who have an interest, I have successfully added a rear backup camera to my 2011 430N RHB Radio. The camera activates automatically when the car is placed in reverse. I completed the project using stock Jeep Parts and DID NOT use Lockpick or anything from a 3rd Party.

I am putting together a formal write up on this, but in a nutshell…

1) Had the dealer add the sales code XAC to my VIN# via Dealer Connect
2) Had the dealer download the change to my TIPM
3) Ordered and installed the Camera kit from a Jeep Commander (it came with the camera, wiring harnesses, and plugs).

Only thing I had to get a bit creative about was installing the camera in the stock rear bumper. I mounted it right above the trailer hitch (I wanted it a bit higher, like pointing out of the spare tire - but since I have a tire cover on this was not an option). The camera is pretty much flush with the bumper and not noticeable. Thats the only hole I needed to drill as I followed the wiring harness along the drivers side tub and exited the vehicle using an existing rubber grommet.

I do not know if this procedure works on 2012 or newer…it was a gamble, but worth the satisfaction of having the benefit of the rear camera when the need arises.

In regards to cost -- the camera and cables from the dealer was 160.00. Reprogramming of the computer, no charge. I have a very nice Service Advisor.

I had to get a box from www.NavTool.com as I wasn't able to get any local dealer to reprogram my head unit, but actually i'm happy I went this route, I'm able to watch my camera while driving as well as enter destinations when moving

From what I can tell, steps 1 & 2 are just warranty related, and not required to get the camera to work. Is that correct?

In reading this, and talking to my service guy, it sounds like just plugging in the Jeep Commander camera would work.

I'm interested in seeing the write up too! One question, does the radio, 2011 430N RHB, fit in a 2010?

2010 Rubicon, Auto, Stone White, 3"Synergy Coils, AEV Geo Brackets, MetalCloak TB's and CA's, 35" Grabbers, 17" AEV Pintlers , Adams 1310's, ORF, PSC, JCR, PIAA, TeraFlex,Rancho equipped...

I had this done to my 2014 JK that I just bought a month and a half ago. Had it installed by a dealer suggested place. They placed the camera on the license plate light. Works well but it's not the same as being centered but does the job. I also had sensors installed in all 4 corners (for the wife) to detect close objects.
