Rampage tailgate strut just installed. Impressed!

As the title says. I installed the rampage heavy duty strut part #86618. Paid $60 with tax at action van and truck.

Super easy install. It took about 20 minutes and the self tap screws make it easy. So far good impressions. It opens my tailgate really fast. I actually have to hold on to the tailgate so it doesn't open too hard. Closing it is easy too. Push orange button and close it up.

I forgot all about those. I remember back when they started to show up and some people even made their own versions.

I really like the looks of the one you installed; all black with a bit of orange. Nice mod.

Nice, do you possibly have pictures of where it mounts inside the Jeep? Thanks

I can take one tonight. I have my car at work today. It mounts 1" from rubber seal and 1" down the edge of wheel well.

It doesn't have to be dead on. I just winged it and it works well

It opens it. Closes it without slamming and keeps it open on an incline. I'm sick of having the tailgate slam on my back

I just have a small piece of wood (2x4) that I slip in between the hinge and tailgate and it holds the gate open with ease.

Lol. That's an alternative.

I like mine because of closing it too. Plus I had $60 burning a hole in my pocket and I wanted to treat myself to a jeep accessory and it was one of the cheaper ones

YUP, looks good, however-

Having the air (shock) mounted/w sheetmetal screws, doesn't promote longevity----!!!

Good luck

Do you have to hold the orange button while closing or just a single press? I assume its just a vent that allows pressure to escape while closing, but not sure. I do like it though!

The orange thing grabs onto the bar as a brake thing.

Push it in close tailgate an inch and you can let go and close fully. It's just a grab. Not a gas release

Rampage tailgate strut died

Well my Rampage tailgate strut died at 13 months post installation.
Anyone else have that problem? The strut no longer has pressure.
I sent an email to Rampage but no answer -- gonna call next.
