I finally did the trick and OMG the Jeep is back to how it was when I bought it (came with the hard top on). I suggest that anyone that is thinking about it should just go ahead and do it. Oh and for the person wondering if the rear windshield washer would spray now that the wire is jumped: Yes, yes it will...

Yeah any luck on the soft top only Jeeps. I asked a different Jeep dealership a couple days ago and they said they dont know nothing about it. But they did say if I put in a aftermarket radio it might get rid of it. Also emailed Chrysler and they just said there is no way to disable it, even after I told them about the hardtop harness trick.

For those seeking proof, I just confirmed it. Using a set song (CD player) and a set volume level (20), I took readings from a fixed location (driver's headrest) using a free decibel meter app on my phone. 8-10 db avg difference. If I can borrow someone else's phone (mine is also my camera), I'll get some video of the recording. What a hilariously stupid feature to build into a car.

I'm glad you tried it, so I don't have to.

It seriously blows my mind that Chrysler did this....why?

I bet some government or consumer group tests noise level outside the vehicle and they need to lower it with the softop to pass.

Maybe that's why I think my stereo sucks. I have the 730n. Makes me wonder if the dealer put a hard top on a previously soft-top Jeep. So my volume is permanently sucky.

I'll probably not take my HT off. We have enough crime here to make it impractical if I don't want my stuff messed with or damaged.

Does your HT have a wiring connection?

So let me get this straight. I have a factory soft top. I am only getting a fraction of the capabilities of my already crappy factory radio? And there is no fix for this?
