Purpose of clip on door frame?

I was wondering, what is the purpose of this clip on the top of the door frame? I grabbed a snapshop from the Jeep youtube video on the top:

You pull on it to release the soft top from the top of the door frame.

Hmm, all I have done to mine so far is use the sunrider sunroof feature. Should I have been using these clips when I lower and raise it? I just unclip the front at the windshield header, slide the hinge lock forward to release the hinge on the top, and fold it back in W shape. I havent used the clips, I will look today (stuck inside my office right now), maybe the clips are behind the sunrider so I havent had to encounter them yet

Those clips release it when you want to lower the entire roof. Those clips being connected are necessary to enable you to use the Sunrider feature.

These clips allow you to fold the sunrider portion back without the entire top folding back into the all the way down position. They are the only thing besides the windshield header clips keeping it from falling back.

That clip keeps the tension on the top when you fold back the front section to use the Sunrider feature. If you want to put the top completely down, just actuate those clips on each side clip and they releases the tension.
