This is my first Jeep - an X Unlimited. I came from a 2 seats sportscar for 4 years, so this was a change, but after wheeling with my brother and his modded YJ once, I decided although it is a daily driver (for now!), I couldn't help but mod and hit the ORV as much as possible - good thing its 45 mins away. I started small by converting toward a more utilitarian look and modifications, including extra skids, rubicon rock rails, had the OEM Rubi wheels and 32" tires for a while with small leveling lift, some quick discos that were my first mod. Then I realized I wanted to go bigger and better as many do, so I started by doing the rubicon D44 axle swap with e-lockers and 5.13 gears, etc. At that point it was ready for lift, 35s, bumpers, fender chop, etc. I wheel it regularly at Rausch Creek ORV and drive it to work the next day if I'm lucky! I have logged 46k miles on it in about 20 months of ownership - so yes, I use it, a lot. No plan on stopping anytime soon. Future plans include to get a used Rubi t-case and Winch... When these tires burn out in a year or two will go to 37s and look for another DD.

One fateful Saturday in March 2010, a spontaneous stop at the Jeep dealership when I had some time to kill one afternoon. Went out for a test drive in a 2dr Rubicon. A couple late nights on youtube and jeepforum.com looking at the pic threads and I was a new Jeep driver. Tuesday the following week, I was signing paperwork to take possession of my 2010 JK Rubicon.
Following some of the advice on jeepforum.com, I wheeled it without mods. Had a blast as the only stocker on many runs in Redington Pass, Martinez Canyon and Sedona AZ trails. Resisting the mod bug wasn't easy, I eventually gave in late April and replaced the factory bumpers with the Smittybilt XRCs and the Warn winch and picked up my recovery gear. Continued wheeling and watching all the other modded rigs and comparing how lift kits performed and the reviews from the drivers. I finally ended up deciding to go with the local favorites, Clayton and BFG.
A ton more late nights researching and putting together the parts list to get the Jeep where I wanted it. By July 10th, I had everything completed and been completely impressed with just how much more fun the Jeep is now.
Mods (Not including stock Rubicon features):
- Tom Woods 1350 front & rear driveshafts
- 5.13 gears
When I was younger I thought my Subaru could wheel, and it did to a point. After that I went through college and received me some education, and realized that I needed a vehicle with 4 wheel drive, the ability to be lifted, power for larger tires, etc. While I was in College they came out with the JK Unlimited....I was hooked. After I graduated it took about 3 weeks for me to get a job, move from West Virginia to Wyoming, receive my first paycheck, then drive 8 hrs to Salt Lake City to pick up my base model Rescue Green JK Unlimited. I had hardly gotten out of the lot on the test drive when I told the Salesman that I was going to buy it.
That was 2 years ago. Now I live in Colorado and wheel the heck out of it whenever I get a chance.
