Old nintendo trick gone Jeep

Well I was reading throught the overheat chime information that Chysler sent and towards the bottom it said how to turn off the ESP semi-permanentally. Kind of like the Up, Down, Up, Down, Left, Right, Left, Right, A, B, A, B, Start thing Nintendo used to do. It stays off untill you do the string of commands and then its back on.

I find that having the ESP "on" is good and bad. Good for automatic adjustment when at high speed (oversteer and under), but bad at low speed when you want to spin the tires on wet pavement or any offroad condition.

If you want the info I'll post it.

It’s good on pavement but dangerous off road.

I have never seen the need to disable ESP, Why is it such a big deal?

To Disable ESP

Allright here's the goods:

Start her up and center the wheels,
Turn it off, then start it back up,
Turn steering wheel to the right 180 degrees and hold it there, then press the ESP button for 7 seconds,
Center the steering wheel and turn it to the left 180 degrees and hold it there, then press the ESP button for 7 seconds,
Center the steering wheel and press the ESP button for 7 seconds,
Turn it to off and your done.

When you start the engine the ESP OFF will be displayed in the console and the ESP warning light stays lit.

To reenable do it again.

I like this option so that I am driving offroad and not the stability program. Plus its impossible to do donuts in the sand with it on.

Remember that there is a warning that Chysler states with this process which disables the ESP. Basically your choosing to disable it, so no wanken if something happens.

If it doesn't work I'll scan the paper I got so you all can read it.

or rtfm.

1. Shift the transfer case into the 4H range position.
2. Turn the steering wheel until it is centered and the
wheels are pointed straight ahead.
3. Cycle the ignition key OFF to ON.
4. Wait approximately five seconds for the system bulb
check.
5. Turn and hold the steering wheel one-half turn to the
right (clockwise).
6. Press and hold the ESP OFF button for seven seconds.
7. Turn the steering wheel back to center, and turn and
hold an additional one-half turn to the left (counterclockwise).
8. Press and hold the ESP OFF button for seven seconds.
9. Turn the steering wheel back to center.
10. Press and hold the ESP OFF button for seven seconds.
11. Cycle the ignition key to OFF.

this isn't new or news. been posted before.

Why can't you use the ESP off switch? Is there a difference or is this just so you don't have to press it every time you get in your jeep?

That's it. Otherwise, it defaults on.

the esp switch doesnt actually disable it. it only reduces its sensitivity. it will still grab you if you go to slide around.
