'old' Jeeper, 'new' Jeep

Howdy all!

figured I introduce myself into this side of JF (and offer my upfront apology, as this isn't technically 'tech'- Mod. feel free to move if need be). I've spent a bunch of time in the TJ/CJ/YJ side of things, but it's been awhile since I've been very active...

long story short, longtime Jeeper (I've had over a dozen different Jeeps, eveything from a CJ2A to a GC limited, and many in between)but decided I needed one with enough room to take all the kids AND my wife with me, so I set out a year or so ago to find a JK unlimited. finally got serious, just picked up a new (to me) 2011 JKU.

obligatory pic

for now, much reading and researching, questions and discussion to follow!

I'd rather see 100s of these introduction threads than the 100s of lift/tire threads that come along all the time.

Absolutely love the color and welcome!

Thanks! I knew when the Cosmos blue came out in 2011 that it was the color I wanted. I have a friend who works at the local CJD dealership, but he said 'wait for the 2012, and the new motor'. I went down to see him in 2012, and he said, 'oh, they discontinued that color early this year'

my two concessions with this Jeep were the motor, and not getting the infiniti stereo.

the pentastar is just still too expensive, and trying to find the exact color/model I wanted in the limited production window seemed a daunting task.

I had to order mine. Mine was delivered thanksgiving of 11 and it was one of the last cosmos blues to roll off the line. Only around 10,000 cosmos blue wranglers exist

I hear you- but, in defense of those 100's of redundant threads, I spent literally hours upon hours researching lift type, size, and wheel/tire options when I bought my Jeep, and all it seemed to do was confuse me more! :

I think I've finally figured it out; with so many different spring options from the factory, and different ACTUAL tires sizes across brands and styles, its no wonder its hard to figure out exactly what you want by looking at pictures and reading posts/desciptions on the forums/boards.

what one guy describes as a leveling kit can be anything from 3/4 front coil spacers to a 2.5" front coil/ 2" rear coil set-up, and one mans 33's might actually measure out at barely 32's, while anothers states he has 33's because his 35's are right at 33" when mounted and under a load.

it can be really hard to get exactly the look you want, even with alot of research.

To many people get caught up in size and height. Without thinking,"what will me and this Jeep be doing". How will it effect total cost of operation.

The color is nice. reminds of the baby Blue that Cj's had in the late 60's.

yeah, I've had to restrain from going my typical route on this Jeep... ended up with front leveling kit and 33's (for now)

still thinking about adding a 2" BDS coil lift. decisions, decisions, decisions!

speaking of CJ's , that is exactly what drew me to this color. another local Jeeper used to have a late 70's /early 80's CJ5 levis edition that color. it had a small lift and 33" bfg's MT's on the first set of Weld Wheels I'd ever seen. man I loved that jeep.

not the same jeep but for reference

That looks really sharp. I'm pretty sure I'm going to take the plastidip off my grille. It needs a little more blue

I wasn't going to say anything (especially being the new guy and you being a Mod and all) but, since you brought it up...

I've never been a fan of the blacked-out grill.

in fact, most all of my previous Jeeps had a chrome grill (or grill overlay). I realize that chrome has taken a backseat to black, but I don't think the black grill adds anything aesthetically to the JK (IMHO, so be gentle )

to make my point, I'll share this example I made over in the CJ section regarding blacked out headlight trim rings

with blacked out trim rings:

and without:

see the difference?

I do not see the difference and need more pictures to be able to comprehend. I don't understand the last photo and need more of those.
