Oil preferences

My change oil light came on four the first time this week. Gonna change it tomorrow morning but haven't decided what to put in it. I'm leaning towards royal purple but is it worth the extra money? I can't find it in anything but 1 quart jugs and the best price on that is $8 a quart, can get mobile 1 for $23 for a 5 quart jug... Just out of curiosity what's everyone else running?

I'm putting in Amsoil after dinner tonight. It's always done me well. My old Honda CR-V (with 200,000 km) would start at -40 C without being plugged in with that in there. Pretty much sold me on it!

That being said I would trust Royal Purple as well, I know that it is used in downhole drilling motors, which see the nastiest possible operating conditions

I'm not too terribly concerned about 40 below here in southern California but it might come in handy when I move back to Minnesota that's for sure!

any full syn will do fine.....for that price go with the mobile 1......maybe buy a case and a few filters and be good 4 a couple years....

Book recommends 5w20 conventional.

I put 5w30 conventional penzoil with a mobile 1 filter

I run whatever is on sale. As long as it's the correct viscosity you're fine.

Utah_Jay 06-16-2013 12:03 PM

10w30 conventional. :D Never been a fan of synthetics. I hate the fact I have to run it in my VW.

Tanimal 06-16-2013 07:21 PM

Synthetic

NCSahara 06-17-2013 06:40 AM

I run 5w20 Valvoline and it meets the Chrysler spec as well as running a oversized Pure-One filter every 5k

pentastarguy 06-17-2013 02:46 PM

i am running penzoil ultra and stock filter. i change every 7000 miles, have yet to see oil change light come on. if you your change your oil at more frequent intervals conventional will be fine. oils, both syn and dino have come along way and either is fine. be aware, mobil 1 no longer is certified for chrysler products.

Penzoil Platinum and mobile 1 filter here...5W-20

Whatever is on sale and meets the specs...can't figure the super expensive stuff for such an old engine design. Now if it had double overhead cams, turbo/SC a 12,000 RPM redline and 200 more Hp, different story.

I use conventional penzoil with OEM filters. I change it every 5000

jopolly3 06-17-2013 09:24 PM

I have been running RP with a Mopar filter... I base my decision on absolutely nothing :D
