Oil leak

I have an oil leak coming from somewhere. Its not a bad leak but it did run dry once on me. Lately I've been just adding as needed. ( which is about 1 quart every few weeks.) Wondering if anyone has had this problem?

When is the last time you have had your oil changed and your filter checked. I had a small leak once that ended up being the filter not being on tight.

Best thing is to get everything topped off, check the filter and then park somewhere that you can look for signs of a leak.

Another guy had something penetrate the borttom of his oil filter and lost ALL HIS OIL, lost the engine, because of that--check your filter !!

If youíve been leaking oil like that then you must have a lot of oil, dirt and grime on and around your engine. I would do like said in above posts but before that, I would get underneath your Jeep and spray with engine gunk and then hit it with high-pressure garden hose. Now youíll have a better chance to see the leak.

how many miles in those few weeks are you talking about? It has been commonly noticed that these JK's tend to go thru a quart - 1.5 quart around 3000 miles. Since I get my oil changed every 3k, I don't pay much attention to mine. But people that go longer than 3k have noticed being low. Someone over on JKO even mentioned that According to Chrysler it's normal to burn 1qt of oil per 1k miles.

for details and info on our JK's, check out http://n2rock.com

Well I've checked before and its coming from just after the oil pan. Hoping its not a main seal.

Again, clean up the mess with engine gunk and a high pressure water hose. Then youíll be able to actually see exactly where.

Brake-clean (brake parts cleaner) in aerosol cans will clean oil/grease/dirt off instantly (and evaporates fairly quickly). But it goes fast...buy more than one can. Use a catch pan...what ever you clean off the engine will end up on your driveway.

If its still under warranty the dealer should cover it. Mine had a really small leak and the dealer put some detergent type of dye in the oil and had me run it for about 300 miles. Turns out I had a bad gasket seal around the top of the engine on the intake manifold.

The bad part is that is was about a 4 hour fix that involved removing the top of the manifold to replace a simple gasket. Don't know if thats what you have but mine was leaking in the same area. I could see oil forming around the transmission housing - just not as much as in your picture.

Hope that helps.
