Oil change controversy?

I have a new '14 JKU with now ~600 miles on it. Some people have told me to get an oil change now, but the dealership said I'm good for a little longer.

Does anyone have a recommendation on the oil change schedule for new JKU's?

It never hurts to change the oil and filter early on that’s for sure. As long as you follow the manufacturer’s recommendation you should be fine. Look in the owner’s manual for the oil change intervals.

I didn't change mine on my 2013 till 8000 km and the light hadn't come on yet. I never reset it and it finally came on at 16000 km for the first change

I would look in my owners manual except it's just a CD and I haven't loaded it onto my computer yet. Thanks for the super helpful info though!

If you call the number on the users guide there you can get them to send you a real manual for free. They even sent me two!

I change the oil on my new vehicles as soon as they get home.
Ever seen what a lava lamp looks like? That's what the oil looks like when it comes out...all kinds of metallic, psychedelic art.
Next oil change happens within a couple hundred miles, rings are seated, etc.
Finally, synthetic between 600-1000 miles and then I follow a Schedule B plan.

Thanks! I'll have them do a change when they are in there fixing the transmission brackets.

Don’t know if you’re being sarcastic or not but either way just how long would it take for you to insert the cd into your computer, 3-4 seconds?

Not that long but considering I'm rarely at home... either way I was just looking for what people have done in general since both dealerships I've been to said to just wait until the car says to get the oil changed and I had read to get it done long before that. Just looking for clarification.

Just read through the whole section on oil change and no where does it say when to get the first oil change, just to get it done with the vehicle computer tells you to and to not exceed 10,000 miles between changes. Keep it to 4k miles under heavy use/extreme use.

So no, the maintenance manual did me no good in this case.

Either way I'll have them change it when it's in next week, since the other helpful members suggested to...instead of pointing me in the direction of a waste of time.

...

It sure does tell you when it’s time for the first oil change and also explains when to change after the first oil change.

Then where? Certainly not under the maintenance schedule section. Maybe it does on your 12's manual but not on the 14's. I even downloaded the full manual from here http://www.jeep.com/en/owners/manuals/

so please, tell me which page it is on for the 2014 JKU smarty pants.

You answered it right here. Do it earlier if you wish. It won't hurt anything. Everyone will give you a different answer for the first change. No reason to get all prissy over it.

Pretty clearly states in the maintenance schedule section page 632 to follow the OCI but not to exceed 10k/1yr.

I for one can't believe that you have waited this long to change the oil. I only have 120 miles on mine and have changed it 8 times.

I changed the oil on the wife's '13 at 2200 miles, just because she was going on a long trip, and it was fine. I hadn't read the manual at the time that states it can go out to 8k miles. Haven't even bothered to look at my manual.

The time now is 08:59 PM.
