now I'm peeved.

38k miles on my '11 JK and the clutch sounds absolutely horrid.

I've been dealing with a ticking throw out bearing for 2k miles now, but today something down there (either the throw out bearing or pressure plate) started sounding like an old barn door creaking like mad when the pedal is pushed and released.

I got under and pin pointed the noise right at the clutch (away from the slave cylinder) so I'm relieved its not the slave, but this is ridiculous IMO.

My YJ had 120k miles on its original clutch and the disk had tons of life left when I pulled it. what the hell happened Jeep? How'd you go from great factory clutches to pure garbage?

Also, does anyone have clutch kit recommendations? I'm not about to put the factory clutch back in, this thing needs a REAL clutch.

Yeah I'm not too impressed with the clutch in my 12 either. Just yesterday I noticed a slight ticking sound between gears and since day one from the outside you can hear the darn thing clunk every time I shift. I'm not looking forward to replacing the clutch but I have a feeling it'll have to be done sooner than it really should.

If it makes noise when you step on the clutch, then the problem is the pilot bushing.

If it makes noise when you are just sitting at idle with your foot off the clutch, then the problem is the throwout bearing.

Noise from the throwout bearing is not fatal. You could go another 80,000 with nothing more than noise. As long as the clutch isn't slipping, I'd leave it be.

It squeals when the pedal is travelling, up or down. It's quiet when the clutch is released, and the pedal held. It very silently ticks when the pedal is released which I already know is the TB.

getting under the Jeep, I can easily tell its coming from the clutch area itself, and not the slave cylinder. I think its either the pressure plate itself (but not knowing to what extent the pressure plate can produce its own noise) or the TB in some weird way that isn't traditional or usual.

What would a likely cause be if it has an audible clunk sound every tube I put it in gear and let off the clutch..? Like it's catching real hard unless I ride it super slow out.

I don't think it's my driving skills since all I've ever owned have been manuals but then again this things a full decade newer than anything else I've had.
