no LSD or am I tripping?

I plan on buying a new, order it when the '14 production opens, 2dr. Mostly going to be a recreation vehicle and to use in winter. Probably a few light trails but no serious wheeling.

I don't believe I need the limited slip differential option but am I wrong?

Thanks for your insights,

John

If you're going to use it especially in the winter I would go with it.. It's a ***** to have to throw it in 4 wheel cause your rear is open..

Better to have it and not need it, than the other way around.

Deuskid, I'm pretty much in the same situation as you. I'm going to order the limited slip dif.

Like you, I'm not doing anything extreme, so I'm sure durability won't factor into the situation.

I'm a UPS driver, and I needed a LSD many times while delivering, but UPS is too cheap to put it into their delivery vehicles.

Trac lock is supposed to do pretty well, I have that feature on my Ram Hemi 4X4, but on it's best day it's still not LSD. It doesn't cost that much, I'll always have the confidence of knowing it's there, and might be able to recoup the investment when I eventually sell the Jeep. I have LSD in the Mustang, glad I do.

Be sure and order the 3.73 rear end!

I'm also getting power windows and locks, Manual tranny, Sat radio, Tow pkg, Side steps, 2 in lift, Hard top. How `bout you?

2013's have an open diff or LSD option or locker. if you do not get the LSD option you still have traction control with the breaks. The LSD is included with the Max tow option along with the 3.73. I checked last Saturday and 2014 options are not released yet. Having had two Grand Cherokee's one with LSD and one without, I can tell you I am a MASSIVE fan of Jeep LS diff's. (But now I have LOCKERS!) WHEEEEEEEEE

What I'm leaning toward is 2dr, flame red, 's' package [for the a/c and 17" wheels], 3.73, tow pkg, auto [I love manuals, had them for 40 yrs, but seems like, from reading in this forum, this particular manual has problems well before 100k] and now, probably the LSD.

Had LSD in my miata, and it did make a big difference.

I was wondering if the Trac Loc was 'adequate'... you seem to think not.

NO FAIR!

Jeep doesn't offer the Max Tow for a 2dr. We have to pay extra for the 3.73 and the LSD.:

buying al la carte doubles the price

I was amused with the clever title.

Now I'm not sure anymore if my English is up to par, but if they gave you more, then.... At least for around here, yes, it was a really good price. Mind you, it is just a sport with some goodies like cruise control, but like I wished, no power windows, no AC ( don't need need it, just fold the top down), MT 6spds, 3.73 and LSD. There was no hard top but found a 2013 one for cheap, now sitting on 2x4 in my backyard ready for winter. And already equipped with nice MT tires.

When the Mustangs came out with the Getrag MT82, in the `11 model year, they had a few stinkers. My `13 with the MT82, manual, and I get along great.

I'm throwing caution to the wind and ordering a manual in the Jeep also. Hopefully, if there were any real problems, Chrysler has them worked out by now.

There just isn't enough going on in an automatic transmission vehicle to keep me interested.

Save your money and put Detroit True Tracs in both axles after you get it, you won't be sorry.
