new tires for stock 18's
Okay so I have done some searchin, but I still have some questions about the stock Sahara 18's. I like the stock wheels and at this point I am not looking to lift except for maybe the body lift. Point me in the right direction for the right tires to look for. The stock tires look too soccer momish. I want something a little more capable and something that looks like it belongs on a Jeep.
I can't find anything in the stock 255/70/18 size, so what size should I look for that will keep me away from the suspension right now? I'll do the spacers and BL if I need too. Thanks in advance y'all.

What's most important, looks or performance?
Looks - Nitto Dune Grappler LT285/65R18 32.5" OK for stock suspension Performance - Nitto Terra Grappler LT285/65R18 32.5" BFG TA-KO LT285/65R18 32.6" 4wd.com has all of those but you'd likely be better served by a local tire shop. |

Cheapest route is to buy some rubicon wheels/tires. You can find them with hardly any miles on them for around $600 for all five if you look around. They will have the added benefit of being cheaper to buy tires for when they wear out and more choices are available.

Summit Mud Dawgs in a 275/65-18 will fit with no mods and are about $200 each.
They're also closer to a real 32" tire rather than the stock Dueler which is about 31.5" or so...

Thanks for the suggestions. I also found this website which has been real helpful
http://www.miata.net/garage/tirecalc.html So far I like the Nitto Terra Grapplers, General Tire Grabbers,Yokohama Geolanders, and **** Cepek Fun Country. Any thoughts? Experiences good or bad? Are 305/60/18's too wide for stock setup? I think I read in the FAQ that 12.5 will fit but is it pushin the limits? Do you just need the spacers? |

My friend uses the fcII's one both his jeep. They are a great DD/weekend tire. They wear nice and look agressive, but isnt a full mud tire.
My dad has the grabbers on his yukon and they are nice.

You are correct. Mine are 35's and went on even better with the DC Torque's. They run awsome in the snow and all other junk you wanna run um thru. They are also very quiet. I know they are there with noise but nothing to bad.

Your Jeep looks very good. What's the full size on the tires you're running and what kinda lift do you have?

On the Sahara, all that will fit with a lift, spacers, or a different wheel are:
stock 255/70-18 a little taller & wider 265/70-18 ---- about 2% speedo & odo error a little wider 275/65-18 with spacers you can put on wider.

3 in teraflex and 35X12.50R17LT on the tires. They are DC Torque wheels.

Sorry for the newbie question, but are the Rubicon 17" wheel & 255/75/17 tire combo a direct bolt-on replacement for the 18" sahara wheels? Any rubbing with the more aggressive tread or backspacing issues?

Bolts right on with no problems or modification. Wheels and tires from an X, Sahara, Rubicon, 2 door, 4 door, are all interchangeable and do not require anything except an adjustment to the speedometer / odometer. In the case of going from Sahara to Rubicon's, no speedometer/ odometer calibration is even necessary as they are virtually the same circumference.
