I will be replacing my rear set this week and I have 34K miles. I'm getting the wear indicator "squeel" from the rear left and pad looks to be 75% worn.
Miles driven is a variable, but it's also the type of driving you do - I'm in a lot of stop and go (3rd most crowded metro area in USA) and I run a lot of hills on the way to/from Tahoe.

I just went to get a oil change at my dealer and they told me I had about 15 to 20% pad left on the rear. 08 Sahara with 32000 on the ticker
Anywho, I told them to hold off replacing them, I would do them myself. What brand of pads do you guys suggest to get? Rotors are good.

If you have the automatic, I can see that early pad wear on the rear can easily be caused by the Down Hill Assist. But as for the Hill Start Assist, I don't see how that would cause an issue because it lets go immediately after forward movement is achieved.

60,000 and have done the rears twice. The second time I had to replace one caliper and rotor. And my fronts are still on the second set with plenty of meat.
I should say that I've been known to play in mud.

24k is about the mileage I replaced mine. I blame the ESP. I've got 49k on it now. The pads are usable, but I'll be buying a set soon. I changed the fronts at about 35k miles.

I found out first hand that rear brake pads wear way faster and apparently its quite common with JKs... The dealership wanted to charge 300$ for pads and turning rotors....
When i opened it up myself, the pads were thin but could have easily gone another 8k-10K miles.... anyways replaced the pads since i already bought them, and it cost me abt 50$....

Friggin dealers....
Checker will turn your rotors for 15$, if you even need it...which if you stay up on the pads and don't score them...85% of the time you don't. They want to grind your rotors to nothing so you'll have to buy new ones from them the next time.

Looks like the Jury's pretty much come back on this one, 25k to 35k seems to be average wear. Good to know!

This happened to my '08 at 30k and another JK I know of at 35k. Fronts were ok as well.

Only 24K? geez, you need to review "driving habits", ...my "cars" lately have al gone past 100K miles before pad replacement is needed, usually at 3/32 -1/8"...granted a two ton Jeep may not do that but 24K is way to short of service life...

I could of sworn I read somewhere that these rotors are not supposed to be turned. I have no idea why, think I read it in a different thread on this subject and a dealer tech told us.

To the person who suggested a dragging emergency brake, they are dead wrong. The emergency brakes are drum brakes, completely separate from the the normal disk brakes.
