New owner, Stupid question

Well, I have had my JK for a couple weeks now and really enjoy it. Never had a Jeep before and find myself staring at that "bar" in the middle of the hood and trying to figure out what the hell that is for!! I know the rubber bumpers are for if you want the windshield down, (I think )but I have no idea about that little bar. Can someone enlighten me with my stupid question ?

I know I am probably going to be embarrassed when I find out..

It may be a tie down for then the windsheild is down... Inside the windshield there is the same "bar".... Look up at the top of the windshield the next tiem you're in the Jeep...

I think it's used with a nylon strap to secure your windshield when it's folded down.

Jeep term for it is a "Footman Loop" and yes, it's for strapping the windshield down when it's folded down. It sits on the rubber bumpers on the hood to either side of the loop.

I thought it was the place to hang your clothes from to dry out on your way home after getting wet wheeling with the doors off?

In Mississippi after a successful hunt, we use it to strap our deer to the hood, so that we can drive thru town, and proudly display our trophy.

I have to admit, after owning Jeeps since 1978, I still stare at it to.
