New to Jeep, and don't know what to believe from the dealer about leaks.

First of all, I must start by stating my dealer is exceptional, and I completely trust them. This, of course, doesn't mean they are right. I have had my new 08 unlimited for a few weeks now, and have been through many rain storms with my softtop, and have had no leaks at all. Yesterday, we had a public safety alert quality thunderstorm, and my no leak-streak ended. I got two small puddles under both A-pillars, and some leaking between the front and rear doors on both sides. It wasn't flood scale leaking, just small puddles and damp carpet and velcro. This was a huge storm, the wind was roaring, and trees were literally snapping in half around town.

I called the dealer today. This is what they told me, "We have been getting calls all morning from many of our customers on this. The soft top does a great job most of the time, but with storms of that magnitude, a few of the seals are bound to blow open, and the points where yours leaked are known points of failure." He said that under most circumstances, the top will hold up fine, and that I shouldn't even really worry about it getting wet, because it is a jeep after all. He was very friendly about it. I just don't know how much of that is true, and if there is a way to stop this from happening, I would love to know what it is. Thanks.

I second that, the rain isn't much of a problem hear in California, but my uncle out in Colorado said that he was having the same problem in is 07, just minor leaks, definitely look out for them, and possibly think about getting one of the weather tech mats, they are awesome for carpet protection and look good.

I am in Colorado and have weathered many heavy storms thus far with no leaks...maybe I am lucky.

I had a friend that was faithful to his wife for 25 years. Then one night a drunk Playboy model hit on him and he cheated on his wife.

Update

Well, today we got two pretty huge thunderstorms. About the same amount of rain as yesterday, just a lot less wind. After the rain stopped, my jeep was bone dry...hmmm..maybe it really on happens when it's crazy windy?.

Sorry, but sounds like a bs copout from your dealer.

Are they going to fix your rust problem yrs from now?
What about the rotted carpet and water damage you might get to the radio, dash, etc.?

Don't settle for their BS excuses.

They might have been "nice" to you, but that is just because they don't have a freakin clue about how to fix these leak problems. Neither does the factory or the Vicodin smoking engineers.

Its a pathetic shame. Yes its a jipp, but its also $25-$35000 that someone is making payments on for 3, 4, 5, 6 yrs.

If you complain enough they might send you a storage bag and a hat for your soft top windows or something. Just take it and sell it on Ebay.

Its amazing how they just can't get it even close to "right" and really don't seem to care.

But its still fun!

A fellow jeep club member is going through a lemon law battle with Chrysler at the moment over a leaking hard top. He's had his in the shop so many times the service department told him there was nothing else they could do. Apparently the hard top (on his) does NOT seal at the center of the windshield and it leaks. A lot. To the point he has had to replace the speakers twice and after a rain he says the under dash wiring is soaked.

Mine is in the shop right now due to soft top leaks. Mine leaks at the top of the driver's side door and somewhere on the right side. The right rear passenger side mat has been wet and dried so many times it has curled almost into a tube. After some very hard rains this spring I had enough water in the floor there you could see it standing on the carpet. So while I am having some other work done on the jeep, I added the leak to the list....and now I am jeep less for a third day waiting on parts. Out of the long list of things I took it in for (some covered by warranty, some periodic maintenance, some required maintenance, and some custom work done) I have been without my jeep for 6 days.

Oh, also wanted to say, don't believe the B.S. the dealer will try to pull. Chrysler doesn't reimburse the dealer what the dealer values his time at, so they will try every trick in the book to push you off. Chrysler may quote two hours for a job and if it takes him six, then tough. Its no wonder they hate warranty work. My dealer tried the "Its a jeep, what do you expect?" I told him, for $30,000 for a vehicle, I expect one that doesn't leak.

I just bought a new Jeep that apparently has been leaking from the passenger A pillar. The roof I think was dirty, so dirty water was able to get in. The good thing is that dirty water leaves behind a nice traceable line when it dries. So I was able to see exactly where it came from.

Right side header seal leaks so water goes under the seal piece rivited to the top of the door frame, and then travels down the plastic pieces on the inside, pools behind the small tweeter speaker, drips down the right side of the dash (that is covered by the door), and onto the carpet.

I showed the dealer the trail, and he said, "Yep, I have seen a lot of these, we have a new style header seal I need to install that will fix it."

I haven't had it done yet, but this service manager outright admitted there was a problem.

If this really is the case, it would be extremely helpful if you could post the results after you have it fixed. Look at your service sheet after it is done, and post the part # of the new header seal that they install. I'm pretty sure that is all any of us will need to have the problem solved.

I'd like to revive this thread and ask Rmag to follow through on this, if possible. Thanks.
