I downloaded a free program from download.com that let me burn at 8x. Burned the CD at the office and did the update while driving on my way home. Everything went well.
715 has the HD fixing util that was in 799 built right in.
Basically if you went to 713 before your HD crapped out, you're fine.
If your HD crapped out, you could run 9.799 which would fix the HD, but wouldn't put correct software on your radio.
9.715 fixes the HD and lays down the correct software.
Where are you downloading the update from? The webpage that the manual directs you to says to go to the dealer for updates. I'd much rather be able to download and install them myself.
Follow the instructions to the letter. It is possible you will fubar the unit if you don't. http://mofv.com/MyGIG/
I made a disc and it installed fine. Mine burned at 12x and had no issues. You get what you pay for, beware, do not try this at home, your results may vary, you must be at least 18 to participate. Is that enough warning?
I've only read of a few that had problems but didn't want to be blamed for giving you the link if it didn't go right for you.
I just got a DVD with 9.713 in the mail from Chrysler so they are probably sending them to all 2008 owners.
