THERE ARE MANY POSTS TO THIS THREAD.

POST #3 contains SOFTWARE related information.

What is MYGIG? Click here for an explanation and video demo!!!http://www.chrysler.com/en/owners/mygig/

RADIO CODES

Bottom right corner of the radio, you will see a 3 letter Radio Code:
RES - Single disk, CD, MP3/WMA. Media Center 130. Standard base radio.
REQ - Six disk, CD, DVD, MP3/WMA. Media Center 230 option.
REN - MyGig, non navigation model. Media Center 430 option. 1st Gen.
RBZ - as above, but the new model starting in 2010. 2nd Gen.
RER - MyGig, navigation model. Media Center 730 option.
All radios: +RSC means Sirius satellite integrated.

PRELUDE: MYGIG for Jeep Wrangler JK.
HIGH SPEED vs. LOW SPEED
MYGIG units are available in both HIGH SPEED BUS and LOW SPEED BUS.
The Wrangler JK requires a HIGH SPEED BUS model.
LOW SPEED is for Grand Cherokee and Commander, among others.
HIGH SPEED is for Wrangler (all years) & Liberty.
If you purchase a HIGH SPEED MYGIG REN or RER for your Wrangler, 99% of the time, it will work "plug and play" without any dealer involvement.

Anyone can remove their old stereo and install a REN or RER in a matter of 30 minutes with common tools and little or no experience. If you do have experience, expect this to only take 15-20 minutes.

MOPAR® SIRIUS SATELLITE ANTENNA FOR RER,REN,RES,REQ,RBZ
Antenna for Radio that has integrated satellite radio receiver such as RES, REQ +RSC. Or RER, REN.
If your current stereo has a SAT button on it, you already have this part installed.
It is the yellow plug.
Manufacturer Part No: 82210466AB
This is plugged into the back of your stereo. The antenna is placed on the P-side roll bar.
Link to part: MOPAR 82210466AB - MOPAR® SIRIUS Satellite Radio Installation Kit for 07-10 Jeep® Wrangler & Wrangler Unlimited JK - Quadratec
Link to PDF: http://site.justforjeeps.com/guide/82210466AB.pdf
for 2011 JK, the GPS and SAT antenna was combined.
more research needs to be done.

MOPAR RER MYGIG NORTH AMERICA
Integrated Satellite. Integrated Bluetooth UConnect module, just add mic $37.50, plug and play!
2007 to early 2008 = 20gb hdd.
Early-Mid 2008+ = 30gb hdd.
2007-2008 = You can only use the AUX input for iPod/iPhone. Control via device.
2009+ = iPod/iPhone integration cable is available, see below.
ALL RER = Single CD/DVD. WMA/MP3. Sirius, requires antenna (you may have it if your radio has a SAT button). Navigation, requires GPS antenna. Uconnect module is built in, requires a mic kit $.

Link to PDF for installation: http://www.quadratec.com/Assets/Installation/103140.pdf

In 2011 the RER was changed to GARMIN.

UCONNECT MIC KIT FOR RER
Stand Alone Microphone Kit for customers with RER. $ Cheap!
The UConnect module is already built into the RER. This is one reason the system is pricey.
You just need this mic kit. Not the module/mic kit.
This will enable hands-free calling & voice control to for RER Uconnect GPS radios.
Link to purchase: Jeep Wrangler Uconnect Microphone Kit
Link to PDF: http://www.mopar-accessories.com/en-US/imagehandler.ashx?id=14078
Roughly $37 from Justforjeeps.com or leeparts.com, you plug it into the back of the mygig.
The wire comes up right next to the top panel cover, and the mic sticks via 3M to any location
in that area. It's very stealth and looks great, works great, trust me!

GPS ANTENNA FOR RER
Manufacturer Part No: 5064350AA
This antenna is a must have for navigation features to function. Without this antenna, your Navigation feature will not function AT ALL. I've tested it.
This is plugged into the back of the RER Navigation system. The harness is blue. The wire is very short. There is a mounting dock already in your JK 2007-2010. The location is directly on top of your stereo, under the radio cover. It's to the left of your compass (if applicable). Installation takes minutes and there is no need for instructions. Most kits will come with wire ties or 3m tape to secure the antenna.
Link to purchase: RER GPS Antenna ('07-'09 Wrangler) edit, 2007-2010.

This ^ antenna above can be purchased for any MYGIG RER 2007-2010.
The antenna will mount like OEM in any 2007-2010. NOT 2011.
This antenna can also be used with a MYGIG RER 2007-2010 in a 2011, however:
You will plug the antenna into the back of the radio, and mount the antenna in same
area that it would in a 07-10 JK, but there will not be an OEM mount waiting for the antenna.
You must fasten the antenna with wire ties, velcro, or 3M to any area above the radio (similarly)
to a 07-10 installation, but you will have to make it work yourself.
The reason for this is simple. The 2011 JK MYGIG RER = Garmin.
They use the same antenna for both SAT and GPS.

iPod/iPhone INTERFACE CABLE FOR 2009+ RER ONLY
Manufacturer Part No: 82211853
IMPORTANT NOTES: Discontinued by Mopar -
SOME PEOPLE HAVE REPORTED ISSUES WITH THE LATEST VERSIONS OF THE IPOD INCLUDING IPOD TOUCH AND IPHONE. APPLE IS WORKING ON A FIRMWARE UPDATE. PLEASE CHECK ITUNES REGULARLY.
I HAVE DONE SOME TESTING PERSONALLY AND EXPERIENCE MANY-MANY DIFFICULITIES WITH THIS CABLE AND A 2009 SYSTEM. NOT JUST CONNECTIVITY ISSUES, OTHER ISSUES AS WELL.

iPod integration means you can navigate your iPod through your radio controls, RER only. With this simple "plug and play" hook up, your iPod/iPhone stays securely attached, out of view and continually charging. There is enough cable to reach the glove box and then some. But not enough to reach the center console.
IMPORTANT NOTES: If you have a 2009-2010 Jeep Wrangler with factory RER, this cable is for you. If you add an RER to your Wrangler, it must be a 2009+ model RER unit for this cable to work. This will NOT work with a 2007-2008 model RER. I have tested this, do not try it.

LOCKPICK2 MOD FOR MYGIG RER & REN & REN+RSC:
This part is required to unlock all blocked features of your MyGIG.
If you purchase and install this part ($199.00 on ebay) you will gain:
DVD Playback While In Motion
Navigation Address Input While In Motion (RER)
Enable Backup Camera Input For Aftermarket Installations
Enable VES (Rear Entertainment Mode)
Video And Audio Input For iPod, iPhone, Computers, Or Video Games
Programmable DIP Switches Enable Or Turn Off Specific Functions
Works With All MyGIG Radios

Link to a seller on ebay that I can recommend from personal experience. This is based on price and extremely fast and reliable support:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/222438882042?ssPageName=STRK:MESELX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1555.l2649

Be sure order the part for JEEP, seller name " kimber1072 " is located in NYC.
When I get good service, I spread the word.

MOPAR REN MYGIG
Similar to RER except: NO NAVIGATION. NO INTEGRATED BLUETOOTH UCONNECT.
2007-2008 RER = 20GB HDD.
2009 = 30GB HDD.
REN + RSC = SIRIUS MODEL.
REN without RSC = NO SIRIUS (antenna required).
ALL REN = Single CD/DVD. WMA/MP3. HDD. NO Navigation.
Again, REN doesn't have the uconnect module. You need the module/mic kit $$.
Link to purchase 20gb REN + RSC: REN AM/FM/Satellite MP3 Player with 20 GB HD - Jeep Grand Cherokee, Commander, & Liberty - Item # 5064242AK, 5064243AL, 5064244AK & 5064245AL
Again, try to find a 2009 model = 30gb hdd.
Link to PDF: see RER pdf

In 2010 the REN was replaced with RBZ.

TIPS:

Tips can be added by other forum members below and I'll edit this post and credit you.

1. Ron Burgundy. Do NOT play around with the "screen calibration" feature in the engineering mode. No matter how much of an expert you are, you can SERIOUSLY mess up your mygig and may need dealer involvement to correct it. All Engineering mode features are accessed by pressing UP and DOWN and MENU (on rer) at the same time. You may need to access this to ENABLE Uconnect when you add a mic kit to your Jeep.

2. You!?

Emergency eject of stuck discs - Homemade CD-Rs or DVD-Rs that were poorly formatted may confuse the system, causing the disc to become jammed. On radios with software version 9.041 or later, you can force the disc to eject using a combination of keys. First make sure the display is open. Then, for an RER radio, hold the NAV button while pressing SEEK UP and SEEK DOWN at the same time. For an REN radio, hold the AUDIO button while pressing SEEK UP and SEEK DOWN at the same time. If discs frequently jam, using high quality media and better "burning" software to create the discs may solve the problem.

REAR VIEW CAM

If you will not be adding a rear view camera and wish to disable the automatic rear camera view, first place the vehicle in REVERSE. While the camera mode is activated, press the Uconnect(telephone) button and hold it for 7 seconds or until the screen returns you back to standard radio view. This will stop the Lockpick from enabling rear view camera viewing automatically when in REVERSE gear.
If you decide later to add a rear view camera, simply place the vehicle in REVERSE and then press and hold the Uconnect button for 7 seconds or until the camera view is activated again. This will restore the automatic viewing enabled by the Lockpick.
Even if you turn off the automatic rear camera view, the Lockpick will always allow you to manually enable a camera when desired simply by pressing the Uconnect button 2x within 2 seconds. This feature enables you to turn on a rear view camera at any time desired and view it while in any gear and in motion. To turn off the manual viewing of the camera, press the Uconnect button 2x again.

FIRMWARE UPDATE 2.043 FEATURE:

Added minimize button to hide/show all buttons on the map. You can see the 4 buttons on the left side of the screen in pic 1. In pic 2, these buttons are hidden, giving you a larger map on your screen. The new button on the right hand side, bottom of screen, if pressed, will bring the 4 buttons back to the screen. Nice feature.

ALL RHR updates both software and gracenotes have been tough for folks to create themselves. Be careful. Ask your dealer to help. That's what they are there for. I can help you if you need help.

SOFTWARE UPDATES FOR RER (navigation model 2007-2010) :

NOTE: Does not include map or gracenotes updates.

Since the MyGIG radios store the mapping software on the built-in hard drive, vehicles that come from the factory with the MyGIG radios no longer include a DVD navigation disc. Future upgrades will be released on either a CD (smaller updates) or DVD (major updates).

If you have firmware that is listed as VERY OLD below, your hdd could be or could become corrupted. I ADVISE YOU GET AN UPDATE ASAP. If you firmware is old, you are safe, but missing out on very nice updates and bug fixes. Other items that are addressed in updates are connectivity hand shake updates for NEW PHONES!!!! And bluetooth fixes, etc.

9.014 very old
9.556 very old
9.561 very old
9.665 very old
9.713 very old

2.402 is the savior for iPhone users! Uconnect Bluetooth connectivity issues - fixed by Chrysler!
2.403 as above, but with traffic commands fixed

IMPORTANT NOTE: If you have 9.556 through 9.713 it is critical for you to update your unit with 9.713 first, which fixes the HDD corruption issue. You can jump from 9.556 to 9.713. If you have 9.713 or newer, you can jump directly to the latest and gain everything in between.

You can find these updates on the web or check ebay if you're not computer savvy.

EDIT TO ADD:
If anyone has trouble getting it I would be very happy to assist!
I will provide a free update cd. You just cover the priority mail expense via paypal gift!
$4.95 for anyone in the USA. Anyone in the military I'll ship yours for free, only to apo addies.

G A R M I N - NAVIGATION MODEL - 2011+
as I mentioned above, the software updates mentioned here are not for the Garmin model.
jeepforum supporter/member Rob_P reports that with his 2011 Garmin/MyGig......with an iPhone 4
* Blue tooth uconnect for phone etc works perfectly
* Bluetooth audio streaming is unreliable, occasionally it will work but mostly playback is at high speed
* Connecting the phone through the center console fails 90% of the time and is unusable.
From what he has seen around the forum others seem to have the same issues.

hopefully we'll find a way to get the garmin update info sooner than later.

MAP UPDATES FOR RER:
The #s are tricky. The way I understand it is, take the last 4 digits of the 2007 or 2008 map files. For example use the number below for the 2008 map, 2070807 = 7th week of 2007. And for the 2007 map, 0642 = 42nd week of 2006. This system was changed with the 2009 maps (map coding). Take the first 4 digits. For example: 0849 = 49th week of 2008.

July 2007
Database: RS6-N-1060642
(version included on first production 2008 MyGIG factory radios, so if you have this map file, you probably have a 20gb hdd)

July 2008
Database: RS10-N-2070807
(Mopar p/n 82211669 MSRP $210.00)

March 2009
Database: RS 15-N-0849303
By now we're up to RS 21-N.

as so forth.

You can purchase these at the dealer or navteq. $200.00
They are not included with your warranty.
And you can't get them on ebay or used. They are licensed.

GRACENOTES UPDATES for REN (ALL) and RER (07-10) are the same:

First, what is GRACENOTES? When you rip music from cd or usb, the radio uses gracenotes to first identify the music, and help to properly display the artist, title, tracklist, and other information. Most commercial music CDs do not contain any of this information on the CD itself. If you don't rip music, you don't need to update your system. If you rip modern music, you may want to update your gracenotes.

February 2008
Application version: Gracenote v881 (872 MB)

October 2008
Application version: Gracenote v1120 (836 MB)

March 2009
Application version: Gracenote v1287 (823 MB)

December 2009
Application version: Gracenote v2057 (827 MB)

February 2011
Application version: Gracenote v3373 (0.98 GB)

February 2012
Application version: Gracenotes v4620 (BIG)

You can find these updates on the web or check ebay if you're not computer savvy.

The navigation radios from 2007-2010 were called RER. They had 3 colored ports on the back of the radio. white = am/fm. yellow = satellite (sat). blue = gps. The gps antenna sat on top of the radio. The sat antenna was on the PS roll bar.

With the newer navigation radio 2011+, it's a garmin system. Media Center. No longer will we see 3 colored ports on the back. There is white. And yellow. The new SAT antenna is also a GPS antenna.

So if you put a 2011 radio in an earlier JK, you will have to do one of 2 things:
1. Get a new NAV/SAT combo antenna. Not sure where or how much. Please post up.
2. Get an adapter that I imagine would plug into the yellow port of the radio and has two ports allowing you to plug in your factory yellow sat antenna. and also plug in a new blue gps antenna.

About 3 weeks ago I had the opportunity to work with the new Garmin based system. First of all, the hdd is still 30gb. But it's no longer windows based, which is good and bad. Good, it's not windows based! So the 30gb hdd is there for you to use, well 28gb. In the previous system, the 30gb hdd was almost half filled with system files, leaving you with 16-18gb for your own music. The bad, you can't update your system with a cd or dvd you download from the web or purchase online. There are other dis/advantages, but those are a few. Obviously, Garmin vs. NOT-Garmin is VERY different. There is no longer a NAV hard button. The speed appears on the screen (mph) if you select "show extra info" in the navi settings. This is awesome for Jeep owners. Too many to list, not enough time.

Please post up if you have info regarding the antenna situation.

The speed appears on the screen (mph) if you select "show extra info" in the navi settings. This is awesome for Jeep owners. Too many to list, not enough time. There are other dis/advantages, but those are a few. Obviously, Garmin vs. NOT-Garmin is VERY different. Subjective, whether it's better/easier. I prefer the old look/style. But the new os is clearly better/faster/more stable.

Please post up if you have info regarding the antenna situation.

INFO in BLUE, below, added by forum member: SirCody

There is no such creature named Garmin RER....
Again, There is no such thing as a RER with Garmin...

FACTS: They are still Called MyGig
RER 730 (navi) was Replaced with RHR (navi)
RER had one GPS antenna and one Sirius Radio Antenna
RHR has one Antenna with GPS and Sirius Radio combined in one antenna
ABOVE ARE THE 730 MyGig units

430 MyGig unit:
RHB 430 MyGig with Garmin Software.
RHB uses the same Antenna as the RHR units do..

All units above use Navteq Maps in the Nav system,
the Difference is 430 made by Mitsubishi uses Garmin Software to control the Navigation
and the 730 RER/RHR uses Harman Kardon's...Harman Becker's Software to control the Navigation.

And other info on how to fix a screen:

HOW TO FIX A SCREEN CALIBRATION - GONE WRONG ISSUE!

1. THE FIRST RULE OF THE SCREEN CALIBRATION CLUB IS....
> NEVER DO THE SCREEN CALIBRATION!!!
YOU WILL FAIL. EPICALLY.

Ok folks, either:

1. you've heard about the SCREEN CALIBRATION gone wrong issue.
or
2. you haven't, in which case, do not ever try the screen calibration option, EVER.
or
3. you have a screen that doesn't work and you thought had to bring your mygig in for repair or replacment.
or

Hopefully you can SKIP this thread b/c you don't need it. But I want to keep this thread up with good keywords b/c after a lot of research, this is a common problem. People end up having to get a new unit and paying for it, if they are out of warranty. I am redirecting folks on other boards to this thread.

If you are #3, read on....

Today was a day from hell. I tried the calibration procedure and somehow messed it up. The screen didn't work at all. Hard buttons worked. After many hours of playing around with it, and doing lots of research on this board, the jeepforum board, the mygig board, etc etc.... everyone asks you to try this: hit 3 buttons SEEK UP, NAV (audio on non-nav), RADIO/MEDIA. Supposedly this will fix your problems. Well it didn't for me, and many others (after seeing in research) hundreds of people.

So I went to the dealer and tried to get info. They needed to schedule an appt, 1 week from now. My warranty is expired, so I figured I would try again, to fix it myself.

The battery disconnect and fuse pull doesn't do a thing. Research showed me that 3 min, 30 min, 4 hrs, overnight, nothing works.

Here is the fix:

1. To start, get into the engineering mode. Seek up, seek down, menu. If you can't, just go in and out of media and/or turn off stereo and keep trying, you will get there, your hard buttons work fine.

2. Be very patient, and try to find the small area of your screen that works. You may think it's sporadic or crazy, it's not. Neither are you. It's TINY. Your screen is now tiny. And that is the whole secret. Once you find that area, that tiny pea of a screen, mark it, or keep your finger there. Now, whatever page you're on, you need to get to the calibrate screen page. I'm telling you, the area that you calibrated your screen to, is SUPER SUPER TINY!!!!!! So the entire screen is calibrated into the size of a pea.

3. Once you find out how to get into the different modes of the engineering screen, you will fail for many minutes or even an hour. Be patient. It's worth it.... You may not be able to use the BACK button. So if you end up in the wrong section, while keeping your one finger on the "spot";) you need to use your other hand and fingers to go BACK INTO EM (engineering mode). It'll be extremely responsive to your fingers, wanting to go back into EM, so this method will be easy for you. Once back in EM, you need to move your finger, BARELY at all, in the direction it needs to go - to either find the next page or choose the calibration bar.

4. If/Once you see the calibration bar you can calm down. Once you get into the actual calibration testing, you are almost there.

5. You have the calibration test up. Hit the 1+ and hold it until a crosshair come up, two bars, move your finger until they are both green. Do 2+ or +2 whatever. Do 3+. You may want to repeat these again one time. Then hit the menu button.

6. Sit back and scream! It's fixed.

With my 2011 Garmin/MyGig......with an iPhone 4

* Blue tooth uconnect for phone etc works perfectly
* Bluetooth audio streaming is unreliable, occasionally it will work but mostly playback is at high speed
* Connecting the phone through the center console fails 90% of the time and is unusable.

From what I've seen around the forum others seem to have the same issues.

Thanks for your addition. I'll add it to the software post (#3).
From what I heard, the garmin updates will be much more difficult to find.
At least for now, since they are so new!
I'll keep researching this and hopefully find something.

POST #3 Updated this evening with new Gracenotes update information.

So in approx 1 week's time Chrysler and Harmon Becker has released to us: an APPLICATION UPDATE that fixes the uconnect issue which satisfies the att iPhone users and just in time for all the new vzw iPhone customers. AND now, a GRACENOTES UPDATE.

If we can get another nor'easter in the next few weeks, February would be a banner month!

Update came out on June 29th for the RES 130 Radios with Uconnect

I called my dealership to see if TSB 08 036 11 http://www.wk2jeeps.com/tsb/tsb_wk2_0803611.pdf applied to my vehicle, he said it didn't come up.

Called Chrysler Uconnect and they said it did apply to my vehicle

Said screw it found this post

Patriot Forums.com :)

Firmware can be found here, http://www.mediafire.com/?ze325ccy1o8gbz4,
simply copy it to a FAT32 Formated USB key, turn your ignition to run/ACC,
plug the key into your USB port and press and hold the Uconnect button until it says updating uconnect,
wait 20 minutes while listing to beeping. When the beeping stops the deck will restart and playing what ever was playing last. **** DO NOT TURN OFF RADIO OR JEEP******
Everything should now work perfectly as it was intended and advertised

And just finished performing the update on my 2011 JKU Rubicon.

Bluetooth and USB (still alittle slow on first connect) perfectly.

Thanks for nothing Jeep Dealership :D So Glad this function is now working perfectly its bugged me since I bought the Jeep 2 months ago.

There is a new update for the RHB radio. It updates the factory 430N to version 23.04.41 which includes Sirius Travel Link & iPhone 4 fixes for uconnect.

I will send a copy of the cd and instructions to anyone in the continental USA.

Just cover mail. $4.95 = priority mail letter. If you want to donate $0.25 for a cd, great. No biggie though.

Turn car on.
Turn off 430N (press Vol knob).
Press "load" and insert CD.
Follow instructions that will appear after a few seconds.
The thing will reboot a few times during this process.
If at some point you think it's dead/done, it's probably not. Just be patient. There are a number of steps where it basically goes unresponsive for multiple minutes.

The whole process took around 20 minutes. This upgrades the Garmin map software as well (although I don't know that it updates the maps themselves).

The update for RHB 23.04.41 includes new firmware that allows the Travel Link to work.

Travel Link DOES NOT provide traffic information. TRAFFIC INFO doesn't comes with Travel Link. NO traffic info is available on a 430N which is what you have. It's Garmin based. Traffic info is for navteq map models.

mygig frozen

I was in calibration mode and it seemed like an endless loop so I stopped and cut the power off. Now my screen is pretty much non functional save for a couple corners. I cannot press anything in the enginering section to get back to calibration mode. I have pulled the IOD fuse but it didn't do anything. Can anyone help!!!!!!! Thanks

you are going to need it.

however, it is possible, I can tell you this, first hand.

uhhh ooo

Thanks for the response! I hope this helps, although it actually seems that i have two points that are working so hopefully i can get one of them to allow me to page down so I can hit calibration button. Im clueless as to why there isnt a pinhole reset port like with most electronics. The dealer said they see this a lot and i think that upsets me more that there isnt an alt fix... Sigh well thanks and ill keep you posted!

Usb

First I must say this is a very useful thread. I just purchased a 2008 Sahara with the MyGig RER and have a few questions. I am almost positive that it has not been updated but here are some issues I am having.

The disk automatically starts on #10 when I turn on the Jeep no matter where it was when shut off. The disks sometimes won't load and take forever to eject, (these are normal CDs not burned). It also has some HDD loading issues and sometimes will not respond when I am hitting the seek button to change the track.

Are these issues addressed in the updates or should I just go back and tell the dealer to replace it? Can I also update the RER by using the USB drive instead of the CD? Thanks for you help

The hdd music is played in abc order, not track. So stupid! No updates available to fix it.

What's the deal with the Sirius xm not showing up?

Anyone have a rbz? What is the latest software? Need something to get my neighbors uconnect working but there isn't much info avail for rbz updates. Mitsubishi dropped the ball.

#38 ·
What is the year of the vehicle with the RBZ radio? What SW version is in it currently? What is the issue with the Uconnect system?
The Uconnect module is external to the radio, so the radio SW does not have anything to do with the UC SW.

I have an 09 wrangler with the my gig RER radio and am trying to get the uconnect working. I have never updated the system since I purchased the vehicle and not sure exactly what all I would need to do or purchase aside from the microphone. A little hesitant to download and install from the mygig website especially as they talk all windows functions and Im operating off of MAC. Any and all help would greatly be appreciated. Feel free to post here or send any info to my email (would reach me easier) Thanks in advance for all assistance

2012 with RHB, no connectivity group, with installed uconnect microphone

I have everything hooked up - the mic wiring connected to the back of the 430N HU. NOTHIN.

I've heard that I should enable it via the Engineering Menu, but can't find it anywhere.

HELP!

EDIT: I found out on another thread that I need the whole uconnect module / package. Please ignore, sorry.
