I bought a new 2008 Sahara Unlimited with 45kms on it. By the time it reached 200kms (not 200,000 but 200!), the clutch was consistently popping out. Usually from 1st gear. The noise was unbelievable!

I went to the dealership and advised them of the issue. Needless to say, their suggestion that I didn't know how to drive stick didn't go over too well. In the 20+ years of driving a standard, I had never seen anything like this.

I was getting the feeling they were just going to give me the run-around but then all of a sudden, they said - yup...we'll replace your transmission. Once that was done, the problem went away; however, on occasion, it will pop out but nothing close to as often as it used to.

Hi YVRGirl, I suggest , if you are still under warranty to get that fixed. I had the same problem and they changed the synchro mesh. I am almost sure there is a TSB about this particular problem.

At first I thought it was my shifting habits ingrained from driving large trucks where you tend to put pressure on the shifter preparing for the next shift. I intentionally kept my hand off the shifter for a while to see if it still happens and it does. If you are taking off on a slight grade and have to modulate the clutch a bit to avoid a stall, it almost always pops out of gear as soon as the drive train goes "slack". Hard to describe, but that's the best way to explain it.

My dealer also gave me the blank stare, but I'm taking it in this week for the issue.
I agree 100% I am also a "Truck Driver" and all these remedies may have their place but Like KLboxer says On an incline or Grade the lever is not "allowed" to be in the correct position. I may just use my shifting expertise & just start out in second on Graded or when in doubt. either way if you use 1st this will sometimes occur. Hopefully not with an inexperienced little girl starting on a steep grade with pedestrians behind her at a college campus.... think about it Chrysler!!!!

40k miles in, my transmission went (would not go into numerous gears). Dealer said they replaced the whole transmission. A week later our transmission cable broke (took the 2012 jeep patriot back in). 3rd time, they said it was fixed. A few weeks later, and now the gear comes out of first. Also, getting into reverse and staying in reverse is a problem. No issue with 2,3,4,5th this time. Lemon laws? maybe next on my list. Was thrilled with the car first 35k miles. Now - not so much. keeping hand on gear shift does seem to help most times. Good luck all.

Keep all of your documentation. If they attempt to fix the same issue 3 times but fail you can Lemon Law the vehicle. Only issue would be the amount of miles you have on your vehicle. If it's over a certain amount (I forget the number) you can't Lemon it. I'm not an advocate of unnecessary lawsuits, but if it's legit I would hold them to it.
