My wife refused to take delivery of our Mountain edition unless the dealer first removed the Mountain hood decals. I didn't care for them, but she absolutely hated them. After seeing it without the decals, I had to admit I agreed with her. I think it looks better without them. How about other Mountain owners? Did you keep your hood decals or take them off?
I have your tropical twin, the Islander. I love the stickers and being a YJ guy it does have roots back.
I do agree that however having a jeep that says "Mountain" or "Islander" on the side does seem a bit silly, but i do like it. At least Islander kind of has a theme that fits jeep, top down on an island, bright colors etc. Jeeps are definitely at home in the mountains but I think they could have called it something else.
My one piece of advice, They only made the Mountain and Islander for one year. I would get a set of OEM hood stickers and stash them away on the off chance that they become collectible for some reason ( i heard production numbers were approximately 5,000 each, but could be wrong) or if you ever sell it and find someone who wants a mountain edition.
I see your from maryland as well. Nice to see another MD JK guy, now post pictures.
I kept mine, makes mine different from everyone else Jeep, I know it was a ploy to help move Jeeps to more than hardcore Jeep fans. I'm a hardcore Jeep fan, after numerous Jeeps, decided to trade in our Patriot for the best Jeep made so far, the JK. I don't plan to wheel our new Jeep much, that's what my CJ is for when it is done. This is just a fun vehicle for us.
I like the contrast of the orange decals against our Rescue Green with the graphite accents. So a thumbs up on the Mountain Package.
The only sticker that should come with a Jeep is a White star in the center of the hood and a serial number on the side! Nah, that would be cool though, gotta love the old military models. I understand how you feel about the stickers, but I think that I would keep them on, or at least have another set to keep.
That was my '04 Willys special edition. Olive drab, green soft top, 41MB04TJ sticker on the side of the hood and a nice star on top. New silver JK now....
I'd keep them, I like the way they look. If the Mountain was offered with everything a Rubicon has, I would have paid a little more for the Mountain, simply because I like the seats, decals, hood applique, and most of all the wheels. :tea:
Although I find it silly to mess with a limited edition anything (I mean why not buy a sport if you don't like the stickers), it is YOUR Jeep. Do with it as you please.:tea:

When the wife and I were looking at another Jeep this past week we were kicking around the idea of the mountain edition but in the end neither of us liked the vinyl at all and would have removed it in the end. So we went the Sahara route instead.
The limited slip was optional on Sport/Islander/Mountain/Sahara. I kept my Mountain stickers. Looks a little better on the blue then the green or orange. I did however, remove the wrangler stickers.
I think the mountain & islander stickers are cool. And BTW who said decals for Jeeps & stickers for kids is right - I just refuse to grow up; so I drive a Jeep like a kid....
I felt the same way, and with the Rubicon being a few thousand more expensive it made it easier. I too chose to take my stickers off. I like the embroidered logo on the seats, and if the exterior decals resembled that logo and were placed where the Wrangler logo is, I might have kept them. On the hood, that large, I found them obnoxious.
I don't get why anyone would buy a special edition and un special it but hey, its your money.. To me that would be like buying a Golden Eagle back n the day and ripping the eagle off, decals have been a major part of Jeep life for a LONG time, this isn't some new thing.
Nowhere to wheel, just hike and bike. I was just there today on my motorcycle- There is a restaurant there called the Comus Inn, and 15 minutes away, you can take historic Whites Ferry over to Leesburg, VA.
The decals make it special. Your wife should've just purchased sport edition and left the mountain for someone else who would have appreciated it a little more.
Go troll somewhere else. You seem to hate the idea of someone doing what they want to their Jeep. You also are bringing up years old threads to bash them.
Newsflash for you, No one is still really interested in the thread if it hasn't been touched for 5 years. Now if you suddenly had an issue described in a thread from 5 years ago and benefitted from it, it's fine to bring it to the surface again. To bash a guy for his choices on his vehicle? Not so.
When you're spending that much, you get it the way you want it. The Mountain was a good value vs. what a Sport would have cost with added options to match the Mountain. Either way, it doesn't matter, the Mountain got traded for a Sahara over 3 years ago.
LOL at this thread.
They are STICKERS.
They only add value when the person who does not own the vehicle likes the stickers (buyers side of FMV).
Buy a set to hand to the sticker guy and FMV is not lowered.
BUT stickers only add value to one in a thousand buyers.
A Dale JR Monte Carlo SS is worth no more than a Monte Carlo SS in resale UNLESS and until you find that ONE buyer that wants the dale stickers, the other 999 potential buyers aren't paying the premium (so do not lift FMV) for STICKERS that can be gotten for 30 bucks on the 'net.
