motor inside center console after car shut off

Just curious what this thing is... I heard the rurring sound a few times and decided to investigate.

I took out the glove box and saw it moving. Its to the left of the glove box, little motor with a crescent shaped white plastic gear on it.

I thought it might be the shifter for air conditioner selector but why would it keep moving around esecially if the car is shut off for 5 minutes already

I have the same annoying noise. I thought it was coming from the cd player, even though I have never put a cd in it. I'll be interested to see what this is.

It keeps moving long after the car is shut down? Sounds like the CANBUS is infested with gremlins. Unhook the battery for 30 minutes or so to reset to computer.

Can you watch this gear move? Or are you guessing, because I know that my throttle body every so many minutes checks for the proper butterfly valve position, even with the Jeep off

I wonder why mine doesn't do that.

I've heard something cycle for a few seconds every few or more minutes in the engine area while working on my Jeep with the ignition on and the engine off. I figured it was the fuel pump though this throttle butterfly thing sounds good too
I've also heard the sound in the dash when I turn off the ignition and wondered what it could be.
Anyone have any answer?

It has been the subject of speculation for a few years now.
No definitive answer has been posted yet.

will take a pic tomorrow.

This occurs with no key in the ignition... yes you can see it moving.

After you shut it off you still have power. The radio, blower motor and any other power acces. stay on for awhile until you open the driver's door and then everything is supposed to turn off, if that's what you're talking about.

I get this, generally after playing the stereo loud and with the heating on. Assumed it was a fan to cool the stereo or amp or similar, it does seem to get warm in there, especially when the lights on?
