Manual Trans blew - I know, why did you get manual...
SO a while back I printed out a bunch of information from this forum on the "popping out of first gear" issue and took it to my dealership. They said they had to replicate the issue to cover it under warranty. They were unaware of the issue. I was waiting for a more definitive answer before I took it back.
So this afternoon, the transmission blew. Engine ran, but gears would not work.
2008 4dr Wrangler Sahara. Manual trans. 33k miles. I just had it towed to the dealer. I have the extended warranty.
Is there anything I need to know before i have a conversation with the service dept?

Could you please define "blew" and describe the event's leading up to the final result?

print/refer dealer to the X ysler TSB number for the existing known problem. HAve your service records for previous attempts (copies) of asking/fixing your tranny a vailable. Go for a "new/rebuilt" vice "rebuilt in shop" tranny, it'll be faster fix and probably a better tested/inspected unit. Ask for a synthetic fluid. Might a well have a look at clutch disk, TB and flywheel while it's there....if you wanted to upgrade, now is a good time. Never, except w/ VOILENT shifts, have I seen any manual tranny (HD tranny's in busses, trucks included) "fail" though seen plenty of auto's doing so. My '10 has "popped" out of first a dozen times, usually it's not "fully engaged" or some slight "hand pressure, etc.," on shifter seemed the cause. It is LOUD and surprising though, not fun...should be no problem under waranty. Less problem w/ extended warranty...

Interesting, I too have never thought auto trans was a safer build either. Typically, the only problem with a MT is a worn out clutch or throw out/fork etc. All very replaceable and quick fixes. But, to repair an auto?!?! No way.
There are hundreds of Auto transmission repair shops around Portland. I've never seen a Manual Transmission repair shop I think, ever.

Yes....he thought he was on The Fast and the Furious, and he dumped it one too many times...

Glued?
You are going to get Peta after me talking like that!
And besides she is carefully bolted to the hood so she can be easily removed for servicing

I heard a grinding sound and then we smelled burning/stench. I would push the gas and the engine would rev, but the gears would not engage. I let it roll to a stop and shut it off. Called the Roadside assistance.

Leave the glue bottle open?
p.s. my guess is a cluster pack failure (it's in peices) maybe input shaft bearing/gear...
