To try and get away from all of the threads whining about something or another, or philisophically debating the jeep wave, I'll pose a tech related question...
After drowning my RCVs in streams and muck filled ruts this weekend, do I need to grease the CV joints? Simply hose them down and drive on?
Any service interval recommended? I have no idea...

I don't know for sure, but when I read up on them I think that I can recall that you have to grease them on regular intervals.

Website and install instructions says one shot of grease "a couple of times a year" - so I suppose one shot every 6 months. It also says "do not overgrease."

Thread I started on threads you don't like got more hits!!!
Maybe you went wrong by asking a question about rcv. What percentage of people on here know what a rcv is much less how to maintain it.

Bet if I asked the proper way to brush a barbies hair, or what duvet best matches my pillows

^^^... in which case you won't get answers from me! Really, I've been sizing up the RCV CV shafts for my next big purchase (Dynatrac Prorock44 Unlimited) and I've done a bit of reading lately (being a bit of a do-it-yourselfer). SO your timing was perfect.
Funny, but RCV also states in comparison to RCV CV axle shafts, you have to grease U-Joints "almost every time you go out." Wonder how many people do that more than twice a year if at all!
BTW, I've also just spent a day under the rig greasing the hell out of her. She's a dirty girl now. U-joints and all!!!

I know, right? All these pathetic little poseurs and soccer moms with budgets, children, and the ability to discern what we can and can't realistically accomplish in our own crowded driveways/garages with our DDs. I thought I'd learn something about CV joints, the RCV axles you installed, and maybe another tidbit by reading this thread. I guess not...
Perhaps you could ask the mech you employ at your dealership, and whose lift you use to setup and install your axles, what the lube interval is (yeah, I've read your build thread front to back, so don't even present a response to that).
One of the things I tell my students, when they are particularly intimidated by a weapon or technique, is that the only difference between them and me is 100,000 rounds downrange. No genetic or academic difference btween us. Then, I show them how to do it. Afterwards, my instructors and I chuckle about them in the team room, AWAY from their earshot.
Perhaps you could just PM all your mech guru buddies (few of which, including yourself, who could tell me the correct torque order for the head bolts on a small-block chevy, I'd imagine), then the rest of us wouldn't have to listen to intimations of how "special" you are, and how inferior everyone else is.
Funny, I don't remember attitudes like this when I had my CJ back in the 70s. All the Jeepers I knew were MORE than helpful, and not a bit condescending. I learned alot from them (particularly about leaf spring suspensions). Maybe it's just the message board mentality.
In any case, I'll now avoid any thread with you and yours in it, exactly the opposite of my first year here. And I'd bet I'll still continue to learn about by beloved JK.

I have no idea what caused that, but you're a little sensitive. Try birth control. It'll even out your hormones.

you and me both. try driving a WJ, i might as well own a pink JK for all the BS i get from the bought not built crowd. 90% of those i know with JK's never have, and never will go offroad. out of that other 10%, i'd say half of them know what goes on in the suspension. the other half...pffft!
so....does anyone know firsthand about greasing the rcv? i was looking at getting a set

Never called anyone pathetic, and nothing wrong with a soccer mom. My wife drives a completely unmodded 2012 Sahara that will never leave the pavement.
My wife, however, doesn't step into a technical forum and ask questions about how many people waved to them today or which color shows scratches the most. Christ, give me back the endless "will it fit" threads, at least they're technical at heart, regardless of how many already exist.
I'm as helpful as I can be with the technical questions I'm qualified to answer. I'm a prick when you clutter a technical forum with loads of ****. Take it to GD or Wrangler GD where it belongs.
As far as being the message board mentality - you're spot on for two reasons:
- People (myself included) are quick to vocalize their negative opinion when it has no direct inpact on their personal life
- Message boards bring jeepers you would never see without the internet, because it's a vehicle they drive from A to B and nothing else. They're not here to learn about the same stuff, and so they wouldn't be in front of you on the trail asking questions.

What I got via PM from a friend that has run them for a long while now, is that he does them every other oil change. No problems so far.

Here's a hint - I don't care about your personal life, or how any posting here relates to it... Not why I pay to support this message board...
Here's the link the the Advanced Tech forum on this board -
http://www.jeepforum.com/forum/f369/
This is where you can discuss all "non bolt-on" topics (as per the forum description). You'll likely find no Barbie doll hair brush or Jeep wave topics in that forum, to offend your sensibilities.
You can also commiserate with all your guru peers there about constant velocity joint lube intervals, and chuckle at all the Wrangler JK owners without decades of experience wrenching, crawling or mudding there.
Like you, right?
Might find your ovaries topic a little problematic, however.
