We went with a sport for some of the same reasons. When we bought ours it was going to be a daily driver and something we would get out and get dirty a few times a year. I admit the lockers and dana 44 would be nice but for the money I would rather do aftermarket lockers and an axel upgrade. I not a huge fan of the electronic lockers.

As for the 35's and a regear..... We went with a 305/70/17 goodyear mtr which measures out at 34.1". That is 0.5" less than most manufactures "35's". We still drive ours daily and haven't seen any real negative effects. Ours is a 3.8 automatic with 3.73 gears. We do however have a super chip programmer which helps a lot. I think the ones that are so fired up on the regear thing are running 3.21's. Just my $0.02!!

I have 2012 Sport with 3.73's and the AEV Procal. I am running 37" KM2s and have no complaints.

I knew I would eventually want 5.18's or 5.88's so I went with the 3.73 for the cost at purchase. Same with locking diffs, will upgrade when I have the $.

I did add some extras after I got it with price difference between the JKU and JKUR.

I have a 2013 auto sport s with 3.21 s and want to lift with 35s but from what ive heard I should regear real soon or I will be miserable I wish iwould of atleast gotten the 3.73 but didn't know about The tow package deal till all said and done so it looks like I'm stuck at 33s because I'm going to be poor for a while after my lift wheels and tires

Thanks for that feedback, helps a lot. i think when i pick it up when im back from deployment, ill grab a 3.73 gear and just add the lift and BFG 35 all terrain out of the gate, then add stuff as money comes

I made the front bumper and the winch is a Warn XD9000i that I got for free, and did a $500 overhaul on it( motor,break, and left housing).
Tires are NITTO Trail Grappler 33" x 12.5 x 15 MB TKO wheels. Quiet on road, great on trail and wet pavement

Although I have a JKUR, if you plan to build a JK the smart money goes on the Sport. You end up throwing away a lot of the Rubi package as you go. If I were ever to build another I'd start with a base model Sport. I'm not big on the luxury stuff they throw on the JKs these days. For a dual-use rig the D30 in front can be beefed up to live, and ARBs will be just as good or better than the stock Rubi lockers. The Rubi's 4:1 t-case is a nice box, but not essential.

Throwing an alternate view out there.

I own two Rubicons and two none Rubicon wranglers. For the average DD / occasional weekend wheeler who is not going to swap axles, upgrade the transfer case, the Rubi provide a great platform to build on that holds a higher resale value. Do a lift, tires, armor, winch and you have a great jeep to wheel with.

By the time you buy and pay for the install of selectable lockers, gears and beef up the front axle, the purchase price delta of the Rubi drops quickly.

I've been thrilled with my Sport S with an AEV 3.5" lift and 35" KM2s. 15 months in and still content, if not thrilled, with 35's and 3.21 gears with my 6 speed. I haven't gotten it off road as much as I'd like, but it's handled some reasonably challenging rock gardens and trail sections on otherwise moderate trails. 4.56 gears were up next this summer, but 11 furlough days and a baby on the way meant they've been pushed back a bit.

Would the Rubicon have been nice? Definitely. I loved my '04 Rubi. But my current use, budget and wanting Sahara Tan in Sept. of '12 meant I had to make some compromises.

Do you think a 2013 sport with 3.21 and auto would run 35s ok I don't plan on hard core wheeling just some light stuff and mostly street I'm not sure of the difference on auto - manual

I can't say with the auto. The manual is OK because starting from a stop is the only time it's that noticeable... Well that and saying goodby to 6th gear. But otherwise I just stay in the gear a little longer to keep the revs up. And the other plus is that the Pentastar seems to get better mileage running the RPMs a little higher. An auto? I don't like them with optimal gears... I'm guessing they gears would be less tolerable with an auto.

I'm fine with 3.73 but I live in the flat lands of IL. PA is full of lots of big hills, right? I think it would be very doggy and you'll soon be looking to regear to 4.56.
