If you want them to come on/off every time the vehicle does, you could always connect them to the power from the lighter. Just don't use the one that's always hot or you may come out to a dead battery one day.

While I agree you should go to the switched circuit, I think you've have to be gone from the jeep for a _long_ time if a couple of LEDs was going to drain your battery.

There really is nothing to tricky about it.

I went to Pep-Boys and bought a 3 LED pack for $7.

Drilled holes where I wanted them mounted.

Took a test light to the wires going into the window switches, or maybe it was the heater controls....does not really matter. Either one have a lights for night time use. Find that (+) wire and hook the LED to it. Ground to the ground and they will work with the headlights/headlight switch like stock.

It's more of a disclaimer because you never know. I don't want someone to wire up an LED circus inside and then let it turn up to be a final straw for an old battery. When temps were exceeding 105 around here, people were having batteries die on them that were 3+ years old.

Did you have to take the face off that pannel to install the lights? Does it just pop off? How difficult is it to do that? Sorry for the rookie questions but that looks amazing and I'm thinking of doing it myself.

Thanks!

I was thinking of hooking a switch to that outlet, that way you'd have to turn the key on. I'm def. doing this in a few weeks.

The 2008 Jeep Wrangler is not so much an SUV as it is an experience. It's slow and loud, handles poorly, has crummy interior materials and features doors that provide virtually no crash protection. But when it comes to off-road performance, the Wrangler is simply the best choice available.

I just bought these from EBAY.

Hopefully it will look good with my Rescue Green. I Also bought switches which I will be wiring this to.

I'll let you know how it works out.

I know this is a bit of an old topic, but I'll be installing red, blue, green, yellow, UV, and white diodes around the front compartment. The first will be the floor, mounted under the dash using a custom LED mount and plumber's strapping. (The latter is that roll of cheapo bendy galvanized steel with holes down the entire length in the middle of the width.) The next will be the instrument cluster, very similar to what is shown here. I'm tired of fumbling around at night looking for my Zippo, cell phone, Yuengling Lager, Savage pistol....you know... the essentials.

Edit: Install should take place 10-09 thru 10-11. I'll have pics up as soon as I'm through.

No, really: with only two cup holders for immediate tactile access, I get tired of looking for stuff in the dark. Now, why all those colors?

Red = General running. Has less negative impact on nighttime vision.

Blue = Almost as good as red for maintaining nighttime driving vision, but you can read topo maps with blue, since the elevation lines are generally in red on the maps I use.

White = Will go on regardless of other selections when dome / door / floor lights come on.

Green = As, or more, bright than White, but like the yellow that also follows, simply for effect.

The green, yellow, and UV (I might not end up using the latter) are basically being added because: (1)I already have them, and (2)Simply for lighting effect.

Because LEDs have such a low current draw, I can leave them on in a parked state. I'm a huge fan of showing everyone what I DON'T have in the car: mysterious envelopes that could contain cash, high end stereos that are more likely to work when ripped off than the stock one, cameras, spot lights, etc. I'd rather someone see that I don't have anything to offer than to cut a hole in my soft top windows to find out. If you use another color other than white, you're also less likely to have a good Samaritan tell you, "Hey, buddy: do you know you left your inside lights on?" It looks more like I tried it.

I don't get off-road, by the way, to the point where I'm blazing trails with the vehicle. The maps are for early morning hunting and for when I hike to do nature photography.

Call me silly, but I'm not spending time, money, and energy on the "bling" of a stereo, amp, and speakers. (Those days are gone until I get through school.) I enjoy doing crap like this, and getting professional results. I've been a Manufacturing Engineer for the past six years, working very often in a machine shop building tooling to support manufacturing processes. I keep swearing I'll do all the neat stuff I've wanted to when I didn't have a machine shop, this is one of those small projects where I can do a bit of that kind of "government work".

Neat stuff coming

Once I had the center dash section apart, I came up with a couple really good ideas. So work is taking a bit longer, but still should be complete by this Sunday.
