leaking hard top/ warranty/ dealer question
I bought a 2 door hard top a few weeks ago from a local dealer who gave me a the best price but I'm not sure their service department is on the ball. Heres why:
My Hard top leaked at both A pillars the day after pick up. Made service appointment, they kept the truck for two days. I even printed out the 9 page TSB for them so they would know I knew it was a real problem. When I picked it up I got the old "we couldn't make it leak, water probably ran in when you opened the door" story. Well its raining today and of course water pouring in driver's A-pillar again. I haven't heard much good about this particular dealer's service department. My question is should I try to take the truck do a different dealer even though I didn't buy it there? I'm thinking it would be a waste of time to keep bringing it back to my dealer. Any opinions? Thanks in advance, Doug

When it rains next time or when you try to hose it down for a test, open the passenger's side door, get in the vehicle and see if the driver's side A pillar is leaking. If it is and the driver's side door is correctly shut and not openned then it is not you openning that door that let the water in. Better yet, take pictures and or a video if you have it and show it to the service department and make them find the leak.

Most dealerships would welcome the chance to service your vehicle for a few reasons.
They get paid by DC to work on it. It is an opportunity for them to make an impression on you, so that perhaps you will buy your next vehicle from them.

What was the TSB for the leaks.

My top is not leaking but this great information to have just in case. The only leak I have had is when the water hose came off the rear wiper and sprayed my daughter.

I thought that I read somewhere that the earliest Freedom Tops were flawed in some minor way that caused the leaks, and that after a certain date the issue was fixed on subsequent production. I know that production on Wranglers with Freedom Tops was held-up for awhile. Jeep claims that it was merely a supply/demand issue. Maybe something regarding the design of the top, or the design of the roof/body interface was modified at that time...?

I have one of the early modular tops. After my dealer performed the above TSB it hasnt leaked a single drop. I guess the newer ones are coming with the better rubber seals.
