Just dirty. My mount are now a year old, and still look like new. They have a nice thick durable coat of paint on them. Though I have heard of other people's KC mounts peel and rust.

I did scratch one of my KC mounts as well, and it rusted up pretty quick, but that was my fault for scratching it and not touching it up when it happened. Still a good mount - just like I still like my Jeep doors even though they are all scratched to heck too.

My daylighters do the same thing. I think it may just be a KC trait. When covered in paint, theyre pretty resilient. But as soon as they get down to bare steel, they rust instantly.
