Kayak Rack for JK

I have had 3 Wranglers going back about 10 years and I always had a Kargomaster Congo Cage rack on it to haul my kayak. I"ve got a Toyota Tacoma now but I am thinking about trading for another Wrangler...we all know how we miss them when they are gone. I can't seem to find anyone who offers a rack yet, I know I can just strap it on the top with the top off but if it rains there's nothing that can be done. Any ideas? Maybe a windshield frame like you would use for lights and a hitch rack to support the back? Any input would be appreciated. Thanks!

There are not many options out yet. I have seen some systems for the 4dr, but they were pretty steep $$, and nothing for the 2dr. I have seen that congo rack and am waiting for it to be availible.

Call DC and ask how they got the kayaks on the roof for the commercials!

The fine print at the bottom of the screen mumbles something about an optional Thule rack, but if there's a Thule system for the sport bar I haven't seen it.

I've been researching racks since I got my Sahara (4dr) in late December. I'll list some links below. My preference is the Top Five because of the adjustable cross bars which will be more versatile for different attachments. However, I've been in touch with Top Five and the new (4 dr version) won't be available until summer

http://www.wildernessracks.com/jeepaddons.html (not out yet either)
http://www.warriorproducts.com/catalog/catalog.php (adds @ 9" to overall height (w/cargo basket), too big for my garage)
http://www.langeoriginals.com/langeMX.htm (not sure if they fit a JK)
http://jeeproofrack.com/ ($$$$$$$)

Anyway, not much in the way of choices ... yet. Hope this helps.

If you have a hardtop, Thule makes a gutter foot that will fit. I just put my hardtop back on so that I can try it out in a few days. I'd prefer soft top + cage rack but got tired of waiting for the right one to come along.

I see that Garvin has released their rack ... the adapters are cool for those of us who have invested (too much) in Yakima or Thule poroducts.

I just mounted this, it's a Thule Rack with the M.O.A.B. Basket. Thule 300 Complete Car Roof Racks , Thule 542 Artificial Raingutters, & Thule 690 MOAB Cargo Basket Rack. You could move the front load bar forward to get the needed spread for the Kayak.

I am considering purchasing an 07 Wrangler X with the hardtop but the main sticking point is that I don't see an easy way to add a roof rack for my kayak. Seems like a design blunder to me...no hardtop roof rails or even mounting points (aside from drilling your own holes).
