Just traded my 11' Ram for a 2013 JK

First time Jeep owner and so far I am quite enjoying it. I should have done this awhile ago. But yeah I'm sure I will pick up a lot of things from this forum so thank you in advance. But one quick question even though it may sound a bit dumb but here goes. While going through a decently deep mud or water hole, should I be staying in first gear while entering or second. I have driven manuals for over ten years and two 4x4's but never a manual 4x4, hence the question.

Congrats and careful in the deep mud, it has a bad habit of breaking stuff and getting in places hard to clean. I though mud was fun until I found out I had mud pushed up to my front diff when I got my gears installed. Needless to say I advoid playing in it now. I found entering in 4HI in 2nd helpful btw. Good luck.

It wasn't deep mud so to speak, it was more like 12 inches of water from a cedar creek and the sand was super soft under it. And I only have basic stock tires at the moment, but I am ordering replacements for them this weekend. And when I did enter in 2nd I ended up stalling towards the exit of it, could be just because I haven't driven a manual in 6 months, but I ended up getting out of it in first gear in 4HI. I'll learn what the best is for the vehicle eventually through trial and error im sure, lol.
