Jopolly3's JKUR Build Thread

Hey everybody,

So new Jeep means new build thread. Long story short my mother's WK detonated its Hemi so she had me helping her look for a new Jeep. Sending a guy like me to Jeep dealerships is like sending a junkie into a crack den. A week later I was turning over the keys to my 2011 Ram 1500 for a new 2013 JKUR 6spd. The game plan for this Jeep is to be my easy to intermediate trail rig the the ability to dolly tow my CJ6 to the tough stuff. It has been a week and I have gone a little nuts with the shopping list haha Lets get right to it...

Here she is the day I brought her home... The silver WK in the background is the one that went boom...

Had a little photo shoot in the office parking garage...

I got my first pile of toys; OME HD lift, Spidertrax spacers, JKS track bars, JKS swaybar links, ARB differential covers, OME SS and some RP engine/gear oil...

The new rig sitting along side its 53 year old sibling...

The ARB differential cover swap and JKS track bar. Can you say beefy?...

Threw the Spidertrax on, now she has a nice aggressive stance. They bring the wheel flush with the fenders...

More to come as the parts role in...

I am technologically challenged to the Nth degree and have not been able to get my pictures of progress off of my phone. A couple of weeks back I installed my MBRP SS offroad exhaust. It keeps all the components even with or above the bottom of the frame and deletes the huge rear muffler which is nice for not getting hung up on the rocks. I am also a big fan of the sound, it reminds me of the raspy burble from my CJ6.

Some before pictures of the stock system...

Here are the new MBRP components. I got this kit on AutoAnything.com for around $370.

I also replaced the transfer case fluid with Royal Purple while I was underneath there...

I still have a ton more pictures of progress that I need to upload, hopefully get to that today...

Yeah, it should be plenty of room to tuck in the Viair compressor system that use to be in my Ram's bed box.

How do you plan to protect it from damage or will it be so high up that thereís no danger? Also, what about the heat from the exhaust, do you think it might be a bit much in that confined area?

I am not going to install the compressor right away but the game plan is to cut out the rear cubby and replace it with a flat panel. I still have the heat shield from the stock rear muffler which I will cut up and mount between the air tank and tailpipe. The air tank will be oriented in the same fashion as the stock rear muffler. I will mount the compressor on the opposite frame rail. I still haven't thought of where to mount the remote air filter but I was thinking somewhere behind the spare tire. I will have to fab up a skid to protect it all. As I get more tempted to start that project I will run more ideas by you guys...

Yeah great idea. A few people have done that (modified the rear cubby hole) just like you are planning. I do believe there is at least one company that makes a kit for that mod but canít recall who. I do know that Jim (JLC08JK) made a custom one that came out terrific. He has a thread on it somewhere and if youíre interested in it just shoot him a PM and Iím sure heíll be more than glad to send you the link.

Yeah, I know I have seen kits offered somewhere. We'll see if I go home brew on this one or not haha

Looks good! How does the t-case sound with Royal Purple in there? Quieter I'd guess? And just throwing this out there, but does anyone else think Royal Purple looks like it should be incredibly delicious?

I haven't noticed if it is any quieter. It isn't any louder so that is a good sign haha

Yeah, fresh RP looks like snow cone syrup or something...

Here are some pictures of the new MBRP exhaust installed. The stock system was a pain to get out even for a new truck(I ended up just cutting it) but the MBRP went right in.

This is the pile of stuff that came out...

And what went back in. Shiny/roomy...

I also attempted to swap in my JKS front track bar and ARB front differential cover but at stock height with stock bumpstops the two collided. The ARB is more critical/looks more bada$$ so out came the JKS, I was a little frustrated so pictures of the interference slipped my mind...

The two that wouldn't play nice...

Next on deck was my Expedition One front bumper and swaybar skid. Both of these parts are pretty minimalist but they are relatively cheap and they get the job done. One thing to be aware of is the swaybar skid requires you to cut out the front frame bash bar. The additional ground clearance is great but even I was a light squeamish about taking a sawzall to the frame of a brand new $38k truck. It came unfinished so I pulled out a can of Rust-O-Leum black.

This bumper leaves the frame rails exposed so I started making up some templates for pieces to clean up the look...

Expedition One uses the stock tow hooks to align the bumper, if you choose to remove them you have to drill additional holes. I chose to leave them, even though I would never pull on them (the bumper has beefy shackle tabs) they are great for wrapping winch line or kinetic rope around when you are doing multiple pulls and don't feel like having to take gear in and out repeatedly.

I was rushing to button up a few last modifications before heading down to Rausch Creek for her maiden wheeling trip the weekend of May 18th. I mounted my Rock Hard 4x4 transfer case skid, gas tank skid and rock sliders. The shipping company messed up my shipment and ended up losing my Rock Hard 4x4 oil pan skid. They managed to find it the day I left and I ended up picking it up on my way to PA and installing it at Rausch Creek.

They are not the fanciest out there but Rack Hard makes some beefy sliders. I also mounted up a Smittybilt G.E.A.R setup on my tailgate. It is great for stashing gloves, tire deflators, etc...

When I made it to Rausch I pulled on to my buddy's trailer to bolt up my oil pan skid and OME SS. The bottom of this rig was looking sweet... for a couple of hours anyway haha I put Rock Hard to the test and they lived up to their name...
