Is Jk TC same in Rubi?

Hey folks, sneeking over here to find out something for a co-worker who has a JK. Is the transfer case basically the same between the X model and the Rubi model, other than of course the ratio. He found a deel on a complete TC out of a same year Rubi and wanted to know if it's a direct bolt on swap. What will he be in for? Thanks.

The NV241OR with a 4:1 ratio is a direct swap for the NV241 with the 2.72:1 ratio - I know, I did it two years ago.

Thanks. I'll let him know should be direct plug-n-play.

He's gonna be selling his old TC. It's an 2009 with bout 6,000 miles on it. Mostly pavement miles. Does anyone have a guess as to what it'd be worth? I'm thinking $700-800 maybe? I could be way off base. Think a new one's bout $1300.

How much did he get the Rubi case for? If it was that good of a deal he should "pay it forward".

You can find the occasional NV231 out of a JK for around 200 bucks on Craigslist or eBay...not much unless someone blew theirs and wants a direct 2.72 replacement....but then, if you need a new one, why not get the NV241OR

Lets just say he paid less than 2K for the 241J with the 4:1. Sounds like he needs to just CL it and see what he can get. And your right, if I blew my 231, I'd pay to upgrade to a rubi or 4:1 myself. Unfortunately, the TJ swap is a little more involved.

Let's just say, that no one here really cares how much he paid, I was just curious, there's no reason to be secretive on an internet forum. But, maybe I'm being rude. I apologize.

I was just trying to help a co-worker out who owns a JK. Sorry to have upset you. Guess I'll go back to the TJ forum where I belong. At least there, I get constructive advice.

Holy crap dude. Jeep is jeep. Why does it matter if you tell someone on the internet how much your buddy paid for something? Do we all know your buddy and were going to rob him for is TC or something? WTF?

Some informative information to add:
The 2010 Sports are equipped with the NV241 but are not the same ratio as the NV241OR.

Its the 2:72:1 ratio.
Unless the information I've come across is incorrect its been that way since the JKs were introduced.

- Second Generation Command-Trac® NV241J with the 2.72:1 Low Ratio on the X, Sport and Sahara Models
- Off-Road Rock-Trac™ NV241OR two-speed transfer case with a 4.0:1 Low Range Ratio on the Rubicon

I do know for a fact on my 2010 Sport its the NV241J. If you look at the case on the driver side there is badge that shows the model information.

In Addition:

The NV241J and NV241OR are basically the same. The only difference is the ratios and thats in it. So instead of completely replacing a NV241J with a NV241OR, you can just put OR guts into your existing J and Bingo!

True... But more than likely you are going to find the TC as a whole and not just the guts... Wouldnt it be easier to just unbolt the old TC and throw the new one in rather than dissabling them?
