JK Stock Wheel Size

I've got a question for you JK folks, if you don't mind.

What size wheel do JK's have? 17", 16"?

My father has a '14 JK Rubi that he's looking to get some steel rims and snow tires for. It has 17" rims, but I didn't know if it just had larger wheels because it was a Rubicon, or what the deal was.

I guess my question is, will 16" wheels fit on it? I'm only wondering because both 16" wheels and tires are cheaper than their 17" counterparts.

JKs came from the factory with 16 and 17" wheels. The might have come with 18's on select models but I don't know if that is a fact so don't quote me. Usually the 16s are found on the more bare bones models.

So to answer your question, yes a 16 will fit. A 15 will even fit depending on the wheel, but then you run into clearance issues between the brake caliper and stick on weights.

In general, for most years Sports came with 16" wheels, Rubicons came with 17", and Saharas came with 18" wheels. I'm not sure about the Sport S, and I believe the X's also came with 16" as the predecessor to the Sport. Special packages like Arctic and Polar editions, MW3, etc. had their own specs as well, but I don't know them offhand.

Sport or X = 16"
Sport S and Rubicon= 17"
Sahara = 18"
Haven't looked lately in case they changed, but this was as of a year or two ago.

If you're gonna order new ones online, just make sure they specify JK application-

If you're gonna buyem used and want some larger tires-make sure the stud pattern is 5x5" and the cl hole is 3-1/4"-

Should be at least 8" wide/w 4-1/2" Backspace-small variations OK-

Good luck

Don't mean to hijack the thread, but I thought the topics similar enough that it was a reasonable place to ask...

Since we've addressed the stock wheel heights, does anyone know the stock tire height for a Sport with Wrangler ST's (225/75R16)? I know Goodyear's specs, but I'm curious about the actual/measured height. I'd measure it myself, but my Jeep is no longer wearing those shoes. Searched before I asked too.

I've got a couple of pictures with a measuring tape, but naturally the camera's at home. I was looking at the fender height (34" I think) but the tire's in the frame as well. I wanted a before/after since I'll be swapping in some 17" takeoffs one of these days.

Top of the tire is at 28.25". These are the OEs, about 3/4 worn.
