JK rocker protection

OK it seems very few companies are offering rocker guards and those that are are asking $400 plus. Has anyone made there own?

I have a buddy who needs a set and was looking for ideas. I have a general direction I am leaning towards which is going to be similar to how they attach to an XJ.

Any input is welcome.

I'm pretty much copying another guys custom set and having them made by a local guy. When they are completed (next week probably) I'll be sure and post pics.

Thanks. Well my build is supposed to start tomorrow. Basically running a 2" square tube down the length and properly supported. I will take some pics of the build as well.

Yeah mine will be a length of 2x4 rectangular tube following the angle of the tub, with some 1.5" tubing coming up off that for extra side protection. I found the thread that inspired me to have some made, and included the pics below. Those were welded to the frame, mine will be bolt ons.

EDIT: i re-read your post and guess this isn't really what your looking for, but you can get some good ideas off of these rockers.

I installed a set of Mopar rails from the Rubicon. They're very well built, fit right into the factory mounts, and were also less expensive than the aftermarket sets. I hacked 1.5" off the rear of the rails to fit my 35's.

Rubicon rails will not hold up to anything. They will fail as soon as you put them down hard on a rock.

Is that fact or opinion? Was thinking about going this route and purchasing them too. Please share your experience with them, thanks

I've seen what happens when you come down on a rock. They don't last long. Very cheap steel. Not thick enough.

I built a set. I am going to build a little different set starting next week. It is not hard but I have not found a way to do it with out drilling the frame. I drilled and taped it but i have also seen how to do a bolt through design.
