Jk key remote with remote start?

Hey all..

I've been DIY programming my own key fobs / Chipped keys for years.
When I got my 08' JK; the PO only had one key

I wanna pick up a couple chipped keys so I can have spares stored throughout my regular spots (vaca house, bro house, work, etc).
Problem is; I haven't been able to find a 4 button Key remote?!?

I've found the regular Panic/Lock/Unlock.. But I need the 4 button to assign the remote start too..

Any help, links will be appreciated

Check because I think the remote start function can be programmed by hitting the "lock" button like two or three times. U shouldn't need a dedicated key button for remote start.

The guy above is correct. You hit the lock button 3 times for remote start.

So I take it there is no way for a Jeep without remote start to program it to have it or are there other parts needed?

I ordered an aftermarket remote start module and spliced it in under the steering wheel. Got it on eBay but can't recall which brand I got. Works perfect. A Google search should pull up the best makers and go from there. It's an easy 20 min upgrade and u keep ur factory key fob.

Another bonus: this upgrade will activate ur factory security alarm light on the dashboard. When u lock ur jeep with the fob, the dash security light will blink like there is a full blown alarm system installed. Cool!!!!

One more thing... The eBay module says its plug and play. That's mostly true but not quite accurate. Actually there is one yellow wire in the module harness which must be spliced into ur factory harness. Choose wisely!!!

Neo: No bud, you can't program "remote start" unless your rig is equipped with it.

Rich/79cj,

Right now, the fob I have HAS 4 buttons - so one is dedicated to the remote start.. I'm thinking it came that way from the factory - So when I get my new replacement DIY program FOBs, I don't think (or even remember) an option to dual program the Lock button to also activate my ignition sequence to start my jeep.
I can see it now;, being in a Home Depot, pointing the remote through the entrance-way to lock er up and instead (unbeknownst to me) Start it up

No programming per se should be needed on 3 button fobs. The lock button has to be hit three times. If ya mess up and accidentally start it, it will auto shut-off after ten minutes of idle. Doors remain locked and cannot be driven unless the actual key is inserted. Not sure ya need a 4 button fob but hey whatever. I installed aftermarket module and it didn't come with new fob keys. I reused my factory fobs. No programming needed to get the remote start function to work. It's all in the module brains.

Interesting... Well either way u should be able to use whatever u can get. Seems 3 and 4 button fobs will do essentially the same thing. I wouldn't pay an exhorbanent (spelling?) amount for a 4 button fob though.
