JK commercial

Quote:
So I was watching MTV Cribs Hip-Hop Edition on MTV 2 today (don't ask, I was bored) and all of a sudden the commercial for the new 4-door JK comes on. The overall theme was urban with hip-hop music playing in the background and all the commercial talked about was: 4 doors, freedom top, in dash navigation system. It didn't even show the JK out of the city, let alone off of the pavement. It reminded me of the new McDonalds commercials with the urban beats and break dancing figures, etc. It was just wrong.

This is not to bash the JK, I know there is a heated debate on its Jeepness and I don't want to involve that debate here. I just can't believe Jeep and DC have the balls to market the new JK as an urban-mobile. I thought that's what the Compass was for. Anyone else see this commercial?
Found this in the "general discussion" area. Too bad Wrangler is getting away from off-road, even in their advertising. I love how rugged and capable it's off-road performance is. Oh wait, they don't show any of that. Huh???? Wierd.

It would be utterly stupid and irresponsible on the DC part not to play the fact that JK is the only 4dr convertible on the market. They showed off its off-road capabilities to the press long before they went to corner the rap dancing drug addicts market.

The more JKs they sell, the better it is. What - you are afraid to be associated with some city punks? Are you buying a car or a perception?

The only JK commercial I've seen was a monkey sitting in a jungle, picked up a bug, chewed on it for a minute, and spit it out. Zoom in on the bug turns out to be a 4-dr and the monkey was King Kong. Pretty lame but at least it was "off-road".

Actually, I found it entertaining this past week reading on the JK forum, what with all the arguing going on. But, in my opinion, the JK Unlimited (Jeep in the commercial) is geared toward families and soccer moms; SUV groups. The 2 door JK will be geared (marketed) towards the current Jeepers and off-road enthusiasts. But I guess we'll just have to wait and see once they hit the market and the commercials come out for them.

Sorry, I'm just messing around. It's late and I need to go to bed. I just was letting you guys see the new commercials coming out. It's kind of cool since it has been a while since Jeep has had a Wrangler commercial, what with the TJ being around for so long. New vehicle=new commercials. Maybe this will get more people involved in the Wrangler, and it will be around for many years to come

I agree that it kind of stinks they have it in a urban setting but. Everyone must understand that the ppl like us that buy jeeps for off roading and are the "hardcore jeepers" we are the minority of customers. For jeep to make a profit on these things they must market to a wider base of consumers then just us. For example the 4 door wasn't made for us. The four door was made so family ppl will buy a wrangler and help to boost sales while we can buy our 2 door rubies for off roading. personally i like the jk. I luv the TJ's just as much but u can't hate on jeep for tryin to make it better

Meh......I love the idea of the 4-door JK! My XJ was bought as a dual purpose vehicle. 4wd toy with capability to act as the back up kid/people hauler.

The XJ is to the point it's not as kid friendly! Maybe a 4-door JK will be the next dual purpose vehicle to get..... Then mod it until it becomes non-kid friendly as well................

Karamba, the above poster makes a good point. My 2wd F-150 can roll down a hill. Do you have any more pictures to share? I would love to see the next shot of this JK going after it.

Whatever they do to keep sales up I don't really care. I didn't buy my Jeep for an "image". I bought it to have fun with and get me where I want to go.

But you gotta admit, this just looks cool:

97 TJ SE (After a 4 year jeep hiatus)
