I dunno - black out the chrome (I don't like that either,) and duplicate the spare tyre on the other side (I use my trucks as work trucks, and pick up all sorts of crap. I often carry two spare tyres - it saves time & trouble.)
@rennypogo - failed at trucks? The Gladiator/Honcho/J-Series full-size was around from the early 1960's (possibly even late 1950's, I'd have to check) until 1988. I know it was at least the early 1960's, because some were equipped with the Kaiser "Tornado" 230ci OHC six (1961-1963.)
So, probably 25-30 years of full-size trucks, and some are still on the road (saw an old J2000 just about an hour ago, in fact. Probably 1968-1970.)
The only failing I can think of was that the J-series never mounted a Diesel engine - a Cummins would be
great in a J-series!
Compact pickups? CJ-8/Scrambler (1982-1984?) and MJ Comanche (1986-1992, probably ended production because ChryCo didn't want to compete with their Dakota. Oddly, the Dakota base engine was the AMC 150ci I4 until 2002...)
So, there was overlapping production from, say, 1961-1992. 32 production years, and you think Jeep didn't do a good job with pickups? They have ever since Kaiser owned them...
