Issues with 08?

Hi there, due to family size and soccer coaching demands, I am forced to move from a TJ to a JK (Unlimited). I have a line on a 2008 that is low mileage and relatively rust free (a bit on the hinges - still can't believe they haven't fixed that). Are there any major issues with the 08 that I should be aware of? Many thanks as always.

The header bar on the soft top may become warped and create a lot of wind noise.

Also the hood latches may be slightly longer than they should be and need to be replaced. I bought some new ones from the stealership for about $25, no more hood flutter. EDIT: The biggest issue with the 08 JK...the 3.8L engine w/auto tranny SUCKS!

Make sure you get two keys with it. Then buy a blank transponder key and code it yourself as a spare. Look up some "I lost my key" threads.

What everyone said above plus:
  • Check for cracked exhaust manifolds. They are notorious for cracking, especially the driver side.
  • Water pumps are known to fail a bit early. Easy to fix yourself. Mine went out at 40K miles.
  • Ball joints. Check them for play. Folks on this board have said they have gone out at less than 15K miles. So check to be sure and get high quality ball joints. Don't get OEM to replace.
  • Check for leaks in upper intake manifold gasket. Had to replace mine to the tune of $300 bucks. $30 part...rest was all labor.
  • Run some SeaFoam through the brake booster line to get out any carbon in the upper half of the engine. These 3.8 have been known to burn oil at a rate of a quart every thousand miles. So, many folks on this formus say to run SeaFoam, change PCV valve, and go to heavier weight of oil 5w-30 or 10w-30 to prevent/slow oil consumption.
  • Clean thottle body...did mine at 50K and it was filthy.

On the other hand though my 08 was for the most part trouble free.

I have an 08 with about 58K and no major problems yet. Just regular maintaince. Im the original owner. Its just a slow motor, which is my only complaint.
