insurance and upgrades

If you have like 10,000 in upgrades and god forbid your rode gets banged up or totalled will u be SOL?

Do u need to upgrade your insurance and notify them of expensive upgrades?

Depends on the insurance company. It's a good idea to call and ask.

My insurance comapny has a copy of all reciepts and pics. It's insured for 6 times there calulated value if stock.Sure I pay a whole $20 more per month for the added replacement cost but will not get shafted if I total it,still only $78 per month for $250/$250 full coverage.

When a dumba$$ cut me off and I totaled my WRX it had about $5k in upgrades. I got about $250 back from the insurance for all the upgrades classified under engine modifications..... I think your SOL unless your company has a different package then AAA... I had a premium package as well. I gave them ALL my reciepts and they still couldnt help me. The only thing they really could take into account was the new tires.

One thing I learned after that is to NEVER let the tow truck take it to there yard, after its there you cant touch it and have to pay to get it moved. Just have them tow it to your house, buddies place, or a shop so you can salvage whatever aftermarket parts you can.

Tow companies make a killing just by storing a wrecked vehicle in their yard. I think it was around $6k that my insurance had to pay after just a few weeks on the lot. They always want to go there first....

I asked my insurance agency (Farm Bureau of NC) and they cover $2000 in mods and property. I can extend that as high as I want, It will affect my premium, but within reason. If someone hits me and their insurance tries to shaft me, my insurance pays the remainder and sues their insurance for the difference.
