Wanted to write up a quick picture/ install thread I did today with my buddy. I wanted something simple and a low cost alternative to buying a full bumper for lights and a winch. This isn't your grandma's hoop either, it is very strong and very well built.
Here we go...start buy mounting the hoop to the winch plate which attaches to the frame brackets sandwiching the winch plate between the two. Here is a closeup:
Here it is all pre-assembled which can be done in the warmth of your living room
Here are the 'front of bumper brackets which attach between the plastic bumper and your factory tow hooks':
Remove the plastic air dam and upper plastic plate that goes between the frame rails.
Then you take off your bumper with an 18mm socket...and wear some gloves if it is cold:
Then you take the fog light wiring harness and take everything off. You then place the brackets that look like the tow hooks and put them between the plastic and the metal bumper.
Then you set the bumper assembly on top without the bumper and put frame bolts in loosely (need to still need to move the assembly around a bit while putting to bumper on:
Then you move the bumper into place:
Then you bolt the plate to the front bracket (this is where you need a 7/16 allen wrench cut short on one end) We ended up using bolt cutters on the allen wrench and then using a bench grinder to clean it up.... basically it needs to be short enough to go under the tow hook.
Then you tighted bumper bolts up, and make sure everything is all lined up and TIGHT:
Once everything is all done, you take your Jeeps out to an empty parking lot and snap pictures! Paul's Jeep he just went with the light mounts and hoop...I went with light mounts, hoop and winch plate with fairlead bracket. Both installs are similar.
is a awesome company. Everything is very strong and looks very OEM matching up with the factory bumper perfectly. Now I get to start shopping for winches and lights!!!
